Van Halen 3 featured "Gary Cherone" on lead vocals, and was the band's first commercial failure. Mike Post.who is best known for writing the theme songs to famous TV shows such as Rockford Files, Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue, agreed to work on the record to help his friend Eddie Van Halen maintain his sobriety.
Mike Post admits that he knew the record wasn't really good, and I knew the record was kind of crappy.... But it's the way Ed wanted it...

I saw this tour in Anchorage Alaska. Gary couldn't sing. Michael Anthony sang all the songs. It was probably very rare. He killed it,..and I loved it. JUSTSAYIN'.

Its basically an EVH solo album terribly recorded. The vocals sound like are recorded with a string n can . Every songs too long. Its just so un VH .

Van Halen III is the worst sounding recording VH ever made. That blame goes to Eddie and Mike Post here who is not a rock producer to begin with
