There's So Much That Comes With Cancer Survivorship!

Published 2024-07-16
Michael started experiencing major exhaustion and terrible night sweats. After seeing his family pediatrician for blood work, he was referred to a specialist for a bone marrow biopsy. At first, they had no idea what kind of cancer Michael had, but the doctors were preparing him for chemotherapy treatment any way. A few weeks later, Michael was diagnosed with Hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma, a very rare and aggressive type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

He shares how he underwent a life saving bone marrow transplant, how he's still dealing with graft-versus-host disease (GvHD), and the treatment he is still on.

There's no "life after cancer". There's life with cancer.

Thank you for talking about this. As someone who has lost multiple people to relapsing cancer I can't help but look at everyday I have with the cancer survivors in my life as another amazing lucky day.

  • Your words are so true. I too have cancer and your words resonate with me. Everyday it's a gift even if we don't feel great. But you're right the rest are alive they'll be scans and blood tests and it is what it is. Sending lots of positive joy your way
  • So nice to hear simple truth. Well said. As the Stoics said, Live each day as if it were your last. That’s true for all of us!

You have a great attitude ❤. It will take you far
  • Finally...somebody put into WORDS what many of us don't say. We're so busy showing the world that we're doing well. This IS what a cancer survivor goes through/thinks/lives with. This is our reality AFTER chemo, radiation treatments are over. You rise thankful for the blessing of every new day, you will be as active & as positive as you can...but...only you live with the proof that your life has been affected with a MAJOR health scare & you're blessed to have come out on the other side.
