I had swollen thyroid too! It was an autoimmune thyroiditis which means my own immune system was attacking my thyroid, hence the swelling. It wasn’t affecting any bodily functions but can potentially if it got bigger. I got it removed because I was afraid of the effects long term. My nodules were huge!!! Thyroid is the most complex and has many important functions, yet many lack knowledge. Nobody could tell me what was causing it for so long until I came across one endocrinologist. It’s A pain if the unknown

I had mine removed, I had a goiter on mine which my gynecologist noticed it, I went to see a endocrinologist and mine was over active and after my biopsy I had 14 cyst on mine and was suggested to have the surgery. After getting your thyroid removed you have to a thyroid pill for the rest of your life, I’m thankful all my cyst was benign

She difinitely needs to have a needle biopsy!! Even with a diagnosis of cancer with a needle biopsy your TSH (blood test for thyroid stimulating hormone) can show normal results. Do not go by a TSH alone. My daughters TSH was perfectly normal up until surgery when we already knew she had thyroid cancer from the biopsy results. Not only did she have to have her entire thyroid removed it spread to her lymph nodes where dozens of cancerous lymph nodes were removed as well on one side of her neck.

Mine is enlarged. I was forced to get my bloodwork done after putting it off. I took care of my Dad who had pancreatic cancer last year. I thought the area on my neck was just reflective of getting older and fat redistribution...My tsh is 26. Yikes. It isn't supposed to be over 4. I realize the swelling is a small goiter. I have a doctor appointment in a few days. I should have taken care of myself, but when you are taking care of a dying parent, your needs are secondary.

Wow, fans did the same thing for Tarik El Moussa
  • She needs to see a doctor. I am dealing with an overactive tyroid myself. I take meds and I see a specialist. If her's is enlarged she needs to seek medical care ASAP. She will truly feel better once she gets the right help. Not treating the tyroid will lead to other help issues.
  • Am I missing something? Did she actually get substantive treatment or just come up with a remedy on her own? It sounds like Ms. Richards still needs to get her butt to a doctor ASAP.
