Welcome to our new series Mod or Myth ... where we seek to answer the question: "Do car mods actually make a difference on track".

We kick things off with a bang when we take the venerable Porsche Cayman GT4 and try to reclaim the horsepower that Porsche left off the table.

Find out if the IPD Competition Plenum with 82mm GT3 Throttle Body, BMC Air Filters and Cobb Accessport make real power on the dyno and any real world difference on the race track.

Thé best improvement is to reset the gear ratio like 5 first short and a longer 6th for noise and long distance drive.

Been doing a ton of research on the GT4. Will probably try my hand at one, once the market calms down a bit. Subbed because Canadian first before all else! 🇨🇦🇨🇺🇨🇦. Looking forward to the next installment in the series. Time to binge on your past videos
  • I would have liked to see the progression of mods reversed: air filters first, then then IPD plenum & throttle body and DME tune last... And what's up with the helmetless track sessions??

Jay over here living my best life with my dream car. 😆

nice video, it would have been nice to see a dyno run after each component was installed though. i expect it would have made a bit more power with the correct map, i could see the check engine light was on, did you not get a cobb tune that accounts for the extra air flow on the 82mm tb, if you didn't your probably not getting all the power its capable of. if you do the headers and exhaust then have a custom map done you should see some pretty good numbers. i keep dreaming about pulling the 3.4 out of my 981cs and seeing how bonkers it would be with a turbo s motor in it lol. wanted to swap my 981 s out for a gt4 but it wont make it up my drive. my car has the x73 suspension on it and it grounds out if i hit the drive at the wrong angle, the gt4 is even lower with a big front splitter and wouldn't clear.

that Porsche tax is serious, especially on the Cobb. But it does seem like the tune is geared at driveability and smooth powerband, not just peak numbers. Impressive gain.
  • Good video, the big debate: 2nd Porsche I have owned and done all the mods listed: Currently have a 2014 981 Cayman S, I installed FVD Stage 1 ECU tune with BMC filters, IPD Plenum / 82mm TB, have not done before/after Dyno, so not sure of the exact numbers / increase in HP, definitely NOT the +27 FVD advertises and the +20 IPD advertises, but noticeable change in performance.... waiting to install Soul Exhaust (not replacing headers just yet)

Atleast in the 718 the motor is down tuned from the factory and restricted so over axel pipes and a rear section with tuning will put the car closer to 500hp. It's essentially the 911 turbo motor from the outgoing model as well as the pdk so I'll be surprised when someone finally boosts it. That said if someone were to go flex fuel (true flex fuel) but on e85 with tuning and the mods I could see the 718 making well over 500hp possibly closer to 600... Also you got highway robbed on those parts

Im cross shopping the 718 GT4 PDK with the C8 Z51 & Z06 (unobtainium) . Those mods you done will be great on the 718. The APR tune only can get 402 hp 316 tq to the wheels which is ok. But I would like to see your mods added plus exhaust to add even more. I saw a GT4 with a custom tune by Motorsports And Performance YT and Akrapovic exhaust hit 447 hp 337 tq to the wheels. Im having a hard time justifying $125-140k for the 718 GT4 when I can get a C8 Z06 for that or even get a c8 z51 and add the lingenfelter super charger to it for 650hp and 630 tq.

It would have been nice to see the gains between the tune with and without the intake plenum. Also why is there a CEL after the mods?
  • @golowbee
Which octane map are you running and what fuel do you use ? Cobb application note says to use the ACN91 map if you use Canadian 94 Octane gas 🤦🏻‍♂️
  • @sunny8784
Check engine light is on after mods ...so will this not pass emissions? 😕
  • @N911GT2
    4K for 20hp. That’s a bad deal.
  • @jellofuel
Those are solid numbers for a naturally aspirated engine though. A 370z with full bolt ons can make the same power as the stock GT4. Granted, the Porsche is twice the cost, but still.
