My ex had paranoid schitzophrenic, he was lucky to find a good combination of medication, lived a great life, was a mentor for the mentally ill. They ended up naming a building after him, at the state hospital. He worked there for 25 years.
  • Please don’t judge the mum for smiling. It might be her coping mechanism. You gotta smile or you’ll cry. I have paranoid schizoaffective disorder depressive type. I’ve put my family and friends through hell. The fact she can still smile when recalling memories is lovely to see. Add to that two amazing parents. Yeah anyways. Be kind
  • My brother has schizophrenia and Anosignosia. He can't reflect on his behaviors and can't see that he needs medication and has a serious mental illness. After multiple public disturbance arrests he continues to suffer and remains detached and unaware of his psychotic schizophrenic episodes. It's heartbreaking when a precious loved one will not accept treatment. 💔
  • I was diagnosed schizoaffective four years ago aged 44. My symptoms started aged six. So many red flags and now I’m properly medicated I can live a fairly ‘normal’ life. I have a partner I’ve been with for 24 years and have three amazing boys. Now I know I’m not a bad person and I am in fact ill.
  • I love that you're open to sharing your story. Everyone needs to educate themselves on mental illness.
  • Relentless No Boundaries many brothers were like that, not as often shared it with a third party. Joey didn't have an off switch, Healthy wasn't in the equation. The absolute in this loving unconditional family is remarkable to see, its easy to see this same child with a single addict mother would be complete disaster. This family as a whole Unit is remarkable to me, such a hard story to share 💞🙏🏽
  • My son was diagnosed as schizo-affective 17 years ago. He's been on a dozen meds. all with side effects & is convinced the meds make him worse. He refuses to live a clean lifestyle. He's also one of the most Loving ,sensitive people. I wish he had a strong support system other than me. People tend to take advantage of him.

He knows he is Loved and that's what matters most! Thank you for sharing!

This brought me to tears. MUSIC IS THERAPY, MUSIC IS HEALING. I don't think that sweet guy would still be here with us without music. I could listen to momma talk all day. I love her accent. sending you and your family love, Jenn from Dallas Tx

Therapist here and what you describe is the subtle onset of symptoms no one knows until it’s too bad. People can live normal life’s continue to break the stigma I adore my schizophrenic clients
  • @vicki3671
There's zero doubt my son is schizophrenic however he won't seek help so he spends a lot of time in jail and prison refusing meds because he believes the meds aren't what they are telling him they are. I have went so far as to take him to court to get placed somewhere that he might get help but the courts won't help me/ him. Idk what to do for him and I'd give my entire life for him to get well, my heart is broken 💔.

My uncle is diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic with delusions and severe paranoia. Unmedicated and able to roam as he pleases . I wish he would get some help. He’s an amazing person but riddled with the illness and not getting better . Love you B

My mom passed away last year from mental illness. She was diagnosed with anxiety and schizophrenia when i was 17 and it came back 2022. I believe she was misdiagnosed. I had no idea what was happening and after several appts and psychiatrist and therapists no one said it may be something more. She hid so much fun new over the years, i found out after she passed. She would do these erratic movements and call my name but wouldn't say anything. It was like when i was young. Same symptoms. My uncle had schizophrenia but she never mentioned anything about herself. I know she had major childhood trauma and suppressed a lot... it will be a year this March since she has been gone. I thank God for getting me through but I'm still so sad. Thank you for sharing.

My mother is a bipolar schizophrenic-unmedicated. A real gem growing up with 😳😢 I can have sympathy for those who seek help, take medication, and don’t let their mental illness hurt and abuse those around them.
