I am way more curious about the island itself, we need video of Sanibel and Captiva!

There are three elevated spans in the Sanibel Causeway. Span A suffered bridge damage near the toll booth. The artificial island that begins Span B (fill sand) washed out. The second Island that begins Span C (fill sand) washed out and the end of Span C (Sanibel Island) also washed out. The Sanibel Causeway was built less than 20 years ago.

So sad. Sanibel has been my favorite place on earth for 38 years. Hopefully they can get engineers in there quickly to access and start the rebuilding process… without the bridge the island comes to a standstill to repair the catastrophic damage there.

Excessive scour occurred undermining the bridge transitions footers and foundations. The protective sea wall and riff-raff failed as it was not massive/strong enough to withstand both the force and duration of slow moving hurricane Ian and its massive storm surge.

18' walls of water tend to break a couple of things. Prayers and good thoughts to those impacted.

So, so sad. Sanibel has been our 2nd home for 18 years. We were due to take our Vacation on Sanibel on Saturday 1st October. God bless everyone who's affected by this catastrophic tragedy. Rebuild Sanibel ASAP.

I worked on Sanibel in 2009 doing Snowy Plover surveys for SCCF😢 I loved driving on that causeway

We were suppose to be there next Thursday staying on the island, I am heartbroken for the residents.

I was there like a month before it happened and drove over it, I never imagined this would happened. This is insane.
