Bangladesh Anti-quota Protests: Six Killed, Universities Closed | Vantage with Palki Sharma

In Bangladesh, violent protests against the controversial quota system in government jobs have left at least six dead and hundreds injured so far. Authorities have ordered indefinite closure of all public and private universities from Wednesday following the clashes between police and student protesters. The protests erupted following a June 5 ruling by the Bangladesh High Court reinstating the 30% quota for freedom fighters and their descendants in government jobs, which was repealed in 2018 after massive protests. Demonstrations further intensified after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina labelled the anti-quota protesters as "razakar" - a term used for those who allegedly collaborated with the Pakistani army during the 1971 war.

The most of our Bangladeshi media, and news channels presentation isn’t clear. They dont providing clear news of protest. They fear the Awami League government, or are sponsored by them. So they are not speaking properly for the protesters. Thank you for making our point so beautifully. I am also a student. #savebangladeshstudents

Even if every TV channel sold out in Bangladesh is against the quota activists, let your keyboard be in favor of the quota activists. Inshallah Thank you for standing by our Bangladesh students 🤝❤
  • We (Bangladeshi) students are currently peacefully protesting against the quota, but the Student League, a government organization, ambushed us. Thousands of people were injured, and many were killed in the attack. At this moment, we need you very much because the journalists of our country are on the side of the government. They have no news on this issue. They are not promoting this issue. Seeking freedom has now become a crime for us. Please post a video on this issue so that this news reaches international media. We need the help of international media now. Please help our students.
