Dostoevsky's Book The Idiot: amzn.to/45slKKs

Dostoevsky was a 19th-century Christian existentialist writer. In this (hyper-interpreted) video, we try to figure out what kind of life could assert that "beauty will save the world."

This video's style is largely inspired by the following channels:

“Beauty has been stolen from the people, and sold back to them under the concept of luxury.”

Beauty, in the form of art, actually saved my life. I had/have depression and did not have a purpose anymore. But rediscovering music, symphony and cinema made me realize life is truly beautiful and, for that, I chose to live. Peace

Didn't even mention the deaths of his first wife and 2 of his 3 children, the man's life was truly full of sorrow.

i've always said the same. experiencing beauty is self transcending and for a moment you forget about all suffering or your own painful ego. i'm extremely angry because those in power are trying to take beauty away from the common population. beauty is what gives meaning to our lives, it gives people a reason to fight for themselves.

If the world is saved, the solution would be beautiful, regardless of what it looks like.

So much of our morality is wrapped up with our sense of beauty.

We study "Crime and punishment" in high school, and from my experience it is the only novel that all of the students enjoy. Even those who don't usually read books are captivated by it. I've heard a lot of high schoolers say that this is their favourite classical book and that it has changed their lives significantly.

Dostoyevsky is absolutely PHENOMENAL. I am a big reader of world literature and so many authors touch heart, mind and create meaning but frankly no one touches SOUL like Mr DOSTOYEVSKY. He was a true literary genius and lived through so much suffering and happiness he describes in his novels. Crime and Punishment, Demons, the Idiot and Kalamazoo Brothers my absolute favourites. Can’t even pick one. It’s too impossible. Beauty indeed MATTERS.

Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is that making something beautiful out of a hardship is like a beacon of hope to all who witness it. We all know how hard life can be, and I think that’s why it affects us deeply when something beautiful transcends that, exists in spite of that. Beautiful moments really are like doorways to hope.

When you have ugly experiences like Dostoevsky did you learn to appreciate the beautiful things in life, from the seemingly simple to the sublime, in music, in art, a sunset, a good book, beauty really can be medicine for the soul and helps you survive the things (and people) that uglify this world.

“Beauty is mysterious as well as terrible. God and devil are fighting there, and the battlefield is the heart of man.” 'Fyodor Dostoevsky

“What if life were given back to me, what Infinity! And then it would all be mine! Then I’d turn each minute into a whole age.” —Fyodor Dostoevsky

“Do you know I don't know how one can walk by a tree and not be happy at the sight of it? How can one talk to a man and not be happy in loving him! Oh, it's only that I'm not able to express it...And what beautiful things there are at every step, that even the most hopeless man must feel to be beautiful! Look at a child! Look at God's sunrise! Look at the grass, how it grows! Look at the eyes that gaze at you and love you!” - Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Idiot

What you said about the dirt that the farmer walked upon is a lesson I learned myself. Until recently, empty bottles meant nothing to me, they were worthless. After I started brewing (for fun), I become excited whenever I get my hands on an empty bottle - after all, it can be used to store what I brew! What I learned is that a thing's value is based on how it could be used. The more life experience you have, the more valuable the world and the things in it become, which is why I highly encourage everyone to be open minded and try different things. It teaches you to view life from a different perspective.

He never losed hope even after so much suffering, that's a beautiful mind.

Given the fact that Dostoyevsky had a deep belief in God, and that in theology God is described as the True, the Good and the Beautiful I think I understand what he meant by saying: ,,Beauty will save the world.”

The lovely thing about rediscovering beauty in everything around you is that, once you start, its terribly hard to stop. I can never walk down a tree-lined street without marveling at the fact that those gentle giants stand over us, some older than we can even imagine. Beauty is everywhere.
  • @cymbolic_space1832
As Beauty is a divine emanation of the creator, a reflection of his splendor on earth, it only makes sense that Beauty itself will bring many to salvation.
