San Francisco is facing a severe shortage of police officers with staffing levels dropping from 1800 officers before the pandemic to a little more than 1500. Now, the Board of Supervisors has voted to allow voters to decide on a charter amendment allowing officers with 25 years of experience to hold off on retiring in exchange for a bump in pay.

  • the department has been “understaffed” for at least the last twenty years, what difference will this make?
  • Vote Breed and these democrats out of office. Defund BLM and recall Price.
  • Bruh I’m trying to join the force, a combat veteran a native of San Francisco but yall won’t let me in.
  • @raygordon3728
Recruitment is up. Ok, I guess if the Chief says so. 30 years ago, they'd have 5 Academy classes a year with 40 recruits in each class. Today they have 1 class a year with about 12-18 recruits. Good luck with that SF.
  • Nope. Cut the fat now and make them hire faster and pay the new guys more. Tured of this BS. Thus has been going on for years, and they don't want to hire new guys
  • @rick03168
many of these veteran officers work in nothing to do areas like the airport or easy office job. They need to stop overpaying these people
  • It’s going to remain short. It’s such a lie that recruitment is up. If so why do they need this plan.
  • @jr8017
Only time i see police in force is when the giants game, warriors, direction of traffic for a small fender bender 😂
  • 25 years and you retire? LOL What a joke. SF needs to make these losers work a mandatory 40 years before they can be eligible to retire. Retire after only 25 years? LOL. What a scam.
  • Disband all the SFPD Officers, they are useless! They are not allowed to chase suspects; they arrive on the scene hours later, and when they stumble upon a crime they sit there. Anyone who has been a victim of crime knows this.
