It’s time to find out which luxury electric car will take you the further - the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53, or the BMW i7!

We’ve got Mat and Daniel (the presenter from @carwowDeutschland) in both of these cars, they’ve been fully charged, and they’re going to drive them continuously up a British motorway until the batteries are fully depleted!

So let’s see how the two compare. Starting with the Mercedes, we’ve got the top-of-the-range Mercedes-AMG EQS 53. As a result it comes equipped with two electric motors that can produce 658hp and 950Nm of torque. However, this car also has a £9,000 performance pack added to it, so the power output has been increased to 750hp and 1,020Nm!

The EQS is also equipped with a 107.8kWh battery pack that is good for a claimed range of 357 miles. Naturally, it’s pretty heavy, weighing in at 2,580kg, and an AMG EQS fitted with the £9,000 performance pack will cost around £170,000.

Next up we have the BMW. It’s the 760i edition, and just like the EQS it’s also equipped with two motors. The power output is 544hp and 745Nm of torque. It’s heavier than the EQS, at 2,640kg, and it has a 102kWh battery pack that’s good for a claimed range of 385 miles. Given it’s not the i7M (which isn’t available to buy yet), it’s cheaper than the EQS, starting from £110,000.

So which will go further - the BMW, or the AMG? Comment with your guess, then sit back and see which wins!

Electric cars fear 2 things: 1. Claimed Range , 2. Mat Watson
  • @user-ru2he7tm2t
I can't tell you why but these EV range tests are just so entertaining to watch

“We’re not gonna use the adaptive cruise control cause it accelerates unnecessarily sometimes” LOOK HOW FAST IT ACCELERATES LET ME PUT IT INTO SPORT PLUS PLUS MODE AND FLOOR IT WAAAHHHHH 😂
  • To be honest the range was much better than I expected. That’s around 485km on a full charge. That’s pretty much the same as a V8 twin turbo car. However I’m sure that range will drop rapidly if you drive like 160-200kmh on the autobahn for a longer time. And that’s exactly what these big limousines are built for. So that would be interesting to see.

I think I like the 'until they died' series more than the drag races these days.

"This is a range test, we are gonna drive the cars normally" - Mat. Proceeds to instantly floor it...

What happened after you stopped the Murk, is that the battery at the chemical-physical level "recovered" a bit. That's not a hidden reserve. Regarding the battery's expected lifetime, completely running it down to 0% charge in reality (rather than specifications) likely counts as much more than one discharge-recharge cycle.

The fingerprints on that AMG dash will be insane after a week.

Mat: "Let's not use adaptive cruise since it can brake/accelerate unnecessarily and that's not great for range" Also Mat 10 seconds later: *Floors it several times in a row unnecessarily"
  • @markarnold8160
I like the fact that when Mat started going again, you could see the breakdown van waiting to charge them up again.

I love these reviews. MY co-workers and I debate just how much you can really get out of an electric car. Can you do a follow-up review? Find some electric cars that have been out there for a few years and test the range on them. We need to know how long the battery lasts under regular use.

The i7 is a hideous monstrosity, but it still looks completely gorgeous compared to the blob that is the EQS.
  • @SDav21
So the EQS didn't have to look like that to get great range. Nice to know.
  • @mathiasbjerg3698
The AMG has over 200hp more, so ofc it won’t drive as Long. It is also way quicker than the i7. He did also floor the AMG several times
  • @FilipCools
Fantastic video! Really enjoyed this one. Keep up the good work!
  • @hallmichael132
Funnily enough I agree that I have gone off the EQS and the I7 has grown on me. The BMW looks like a proper car for this level of money.
  • We are having a EQS 450 4matic right now and the consumption is awesome. Our overall consumption is on 9600km 23kwh. Often my dad drives and he is not pushing the car but you have to mention the 2.7t.
  • @TheGaryprice
Brilliant video I can’t wait to see some electrics back togeather and the dash light up for the first time
