Your metabolism determines how efficiently your body burns calories. As you age, physical and hormonal changes decrease your metabolic rate, slowing down weight loss. There is not much you can do about getting old, but by shifting your eating schedule to earlier in the day, you work with your body, giving it energy when it can burn it and rest when it needs it. In this video, I’ll share how to use early time-restricted eating to give your over 50-year-old body what it needs, so you can get the weight loss you want.

I do 16/8 intermittent at least 4 days a week, but even when I'm not doing that, most of the time I'm done eating by 5:30pm or so. I have noticed in the last couple of months, that if I eat anything late at night (usually because I didn't pay attention to my protein/fiber/fat intact during the day) it's usually in the wee hours of the next morning, and while I always eat something that is carb-less, I still don't feel as well or lose as much weight (normal 3/10s to 1/2 pound per intermittent day) as when I stop eating early and am not hungry until a few hours in my morning the next day. I'm 71 and my mind is sharper if I get to sleep by ten, am up by 5 or 6, and then have an intermittent day. I'm glad to hear there's a research-based reason why this works so well for me, weight-loss-wise.

I have a family tradition to eat dinner, I fast all morning at age 60, and have a first meal at 1pm then dinner at 5pm to 6pm. My girls will never agree to eat dinner at 4pm. Maybe when my daughters leave the nest, but my wife is stuck in her routine. We always fight over food and ingredients. I do appreciate this video, and I wish To try eTRE one day.
  • eTRE for weight loss coupled with keto should work for me if I can kick the sugar and quit sabotaging myself. I appreciate your videos and website, you’re always encouraging and motivating.

I knew it! I always gain weight when I eat too close to bedtime. That’s when I’m the most hungry. I’ve been trying so hard to not eat late but I’m struggling. This is more motivation. Thank you!

This information comes at a good time! I haven't been able to shed the 10 pounds, that I gained over the last year and a half. Thanks for all your videos!
  • @sharonlee782
I love this way of eating. I’m finding my sugar cravings are gone, I’m not hungry and my reflux/heartburn has improved where I don’t need medication everyday

It’s been a slow walk to not eating after 4 for me. I, at first, had hunger pangs so bad I could think of nothing else, so I decided I would drink sugar free cocoa, instead of eating. It really helped. But….Knowing that’s junk, I eased over to having hot tea and now I’ve had a few days of nothing. But I’m hanging in there, having an eating window of 8-4 (2 meals a day) and I will slowly move on to, once in a while, having one meal a day. But slowly easing into it has helped me. 👍🏼

Thank you! Your so well spoken. I fell, my body went into shock, then I gained weight so fast. But now I'm eating out of boredom. But I will do this adjustment.
  • @Pipsterz
Thank you Dr Becky. Had heard of this but never heard it explained. Began 20/24 IF two yrs ago, some OMAD too, but eat at dinner. I'm usually not hungry until dinner. But 'all things are possible' :) ♥️

Dr. Becky, such a great video !! Your channel has helped my health immensely! BTW, I'm a 58 year old man. I really want to thank you for giving so much of yourself ! Your helping so many people... take care ..M
  • @carazie5267
It's much easier to make these time restricted eating changes once you are already fat adapted, having eaten low carb for a while. Once fat adapted, the hunger disappears (or at least lessens considerably) and it's not such a challenge to skip a meal or stop eating earlier in the evening. Overcoming the years long ingrained eating habits is the tough part! I still look for something to eat just because it's a snow day and not because of hunger!
  • @kcdesign9
Thank you so much I’ve been keto low carb for over 3yrs … now being over 55 yrs old I wasn’t sure for my age of when to start my eating window … so informative thanks
  • @terrysabo253

  • @SwallowAPoem
I found this video so easy to understand & I want to thank you. I just turned 50. I am going to practice this way of eating not because you're a Doctor but because I understand now what's going on in my body. I have 43 pounds to lose & I know now slow & steady along with this way of eating will get me there to celebrate spring in March.
  • @ceciliab5409
