I relate a hundred times. My hair grew out so fast, thick and long, and I, literally, couldn't manage it. Like you, I never wore my hair out. You'd only catch my hair undone on my way to the salon. The only times I dealt with my hair myself were on wash days, which I, intentionally, kept few and far between. There were no natural hairdressers in my area that could afford the patience it required without charging me through the roof. The only protective style I wore were braids—usually one one—and I wore them for weeeeeks. Ironically, this grew my hair even more (maybe not ironically, but you get my drift). I dreaded wash days, even if my sister offered to help. I would cry, my back would hurt, my neck would ache, my arms would kill, all because of natural hair. A whole day dedicated to just taking out the braids and washing my hair, and another to making it. It wasn't until I got admitted into a Master's, I decided I couldn't deal anymore. I remember that day clearly; it was as though I was under an influence. I just snipped at the braids very close to their roots. For a minute, I stunned myself. After undoing those sorry stubs for a braid, I was waiting for some emotion to hit me. Something. Regret. Pain. Shame. Melancholy. Anything. But nothing did. It wasn't after I'm sat on the barber's chair, and he says, "E mecha go m," I look at myself, oil-faced, bordered by these large gold hoop earrings, and I loved it! Last month made it a year, and I, absolutely, recommend, black woman or not. It is just hair, your hair. Have fun with it whilst you can. Don't let these black hair community gatekeepers rain on your parade. They are the split ends you need to trim if you want to be great. Do I apologise for the long read? Hehe.
  • Go girl!!! Dont be a slave to your hair...you own the hair, the hair doesn't own you. You look beautiful either ways❤

I relaxed my hair yesterday for the first time in 6 years and I couldn’t be more happy. A lot of people gave unsolicited advice, saying ‘I’m spoiling my hair’, ‘ people are praying for the type of hair you’re about to ruin’ but honestly, I’m so happy about my decision because my natural hair was really difficult to maintain. I completely made up my mind after watching your video two weeks ago❤️

Do you girl!! I’m all for anyone doing what makes them happy. I hate how some people in the natural community shame or make people feel bad for wanting to relax their hair. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now.. Wish we all could just coexist without shame or guilt or separation. All hair is beautiful, relaxed or completely natural

Welcome to the club Kamsi 😊😌 I tried natural hair for a year plus and I couldn't handle it. My hair is full and stubborn sometimes even when relaxed but with undergrowth talkless when I was natural. I couldn't deal honestly, went to the salon and got it relaxed and trimmed, never going back, don't regret it. 😌😊❤❤
