The area now called the Western Plaguelands was a beautiful forested farmland east of Tirisfal Glades stretching from Lordaeron in the west to the Eastweald in the east. The town of Hearthglen was the seat of the regional administration, while the town of Andorhal was the center of grain distribution in Lordaeron's northern provinces.

Knowing that the quickest way to spread the Plague of Undeath would be via the grain exported from Andorhal, the necromancer Kel'Thuzad and his Cult of the Damned infected the grain with the Plague, and set up four massive plague cauldrons in the fields of the area's four largest farmsteads. As Lordaeron collapsed, the farmlands and the forests began to die. The trees in the Plaguelands pulsate with tumor-like growths, and the needles of the pines are a sickly brown. With the Kingdom collapsed, the Scarlet Crusade attempted to salvage what little of their lands remained, taking possession of Mardenholde Keep in Hearthglen as a regional headquarters. Some time later after the fall of the Scarlet Crusade and the war in Outland, the fight against the Scourge was brought to Northrend and victory claimed by the Ashen Verdict, the town of Hearthglen was reclaimed by its former lord and the leader of Argent Crusade, Tirion Fordring; it now serves as a main base of operations and training ground for the Argent Crusaders in Lordaeron.

Despite being where the Plague took hold in Lordaeron, the Western Plaguelands were in surprisingly better condition (though still quite dead) than the Eastern Plaguelands. It may be one of the factors that helped the Cenarion Circle nurse the majority of this land to its former state.

Loved WPL back in the day. The caldron quests, and the quests you find at the first couple of farms. Tremendous little stories about the people lost to the spread of the undead. I remember walking by the first one and hearing a voice saying "help me." Freaked me out. Went in and started a memorable and sad quest chain. Great zone.
  • That first track... wow Edit : I was totally caught off guard by the second one, nostalgia hit hard

The Barov Peasant Caller quest in this zone used to be fantastic fun, not only was Barov a 'proper' gold elite, he was PvP flagged, stuck in the middle of a camp of alliance NPCs and on a frequently used flightpoint. I used to spend ages on my alts sneaking around the camp waiting for players to leave so I could wheedle him out and kite him over a hill so he could be properly murdered in peace and quiet (assuming he didn't beat me to death first).
  • Life and death. Human or Forsaken. One can't be without the other. This must be my favorite soundtrack.

to venture into the unknown enemy is what made me love world of Warcraft , so much mysterious areas and dark songs will never forget it
  • @kenllacer
Poor Lurid's corpse has been left to rot in Andorhal for a decade.
  • Definitely an underrated zone, made beautiful and an enjoyable 5 levels of questing with Cata. Hated the old version except for the Scarlet Town in the north.
  • @Kirbz42
One of my favorite areas in the game by far. Great work doing it justice.
  • Gory always wanted to be a farmer. Gory wants to help out on farm, Gory already has his own scythe! Gory not very good at planting, but Gory VERY good at reaping!
  • Ayyyy!!! Everness back in action!!! Great work as always bud!! Love the material you pump out!! Always amazing Everness!!
  • @dhelor
Always been one of my favorite classic zones.
  • "We do...what the living cannot." "None shall oppose you, death lord."
  • one of the best remade zones from cata music- and looks-wise! i wish they would have kept some quests from the old zone tho, like the "locked away" quest or the scholomance key quest chain
  • One of my favourite soundtracks, please continue your work! I listen to it almost every day and surprises like this put a smile on my face.
  • @mkwarlock
I love your work! This video brought up so many good memories from more than 10 years ago, of all of the times I was leveling in this zone.
  • @MrVaeron
Lol, i just realized that i never really leveled any Character in high level reworkd Cata Zones. Mostly Boosts from later Expansions, tanking dungeons non stop or chars were already high level than Vanilla. I honestly remember WLP the way it was in Vanilla-Wrath... Well, tbh, there wasnt a lot of quests anyway to begin with and the whole zone was covered by greenish brown fog, lol But with Classic HC, i have seen a lot of WLP and Scholomance lately and you really see the magic of Cata Rework now in comparision. The added effects, more enviromental stuff, more ambience and overall more work put into the Areas and Dungeons. Really makes you hyped for a Classic +
