Published 2021-12-07
How do you train an aggressive dog trying to attack people? Tom Davis breaks down how to work with a reactive/aggressive dog. Not every dog is the same and each dog requires a different lens to get the outcome needed to be successful and safe.

  • I am impressed that you approach EACH dog as an individual; never a "one size fits all" attitude. I admire that you are OPEN to changing your techniques as needed for each dog. I would love to see videos where you check in on past clients to see how they're doing. Maybe doing "tune-ups" when clients backslide? (I know you probably do NOT have any spare time.) Thank you for saving lives!
  • I'm a huge fan of brandon's tv show so it wasn't surprising that his book youtube.com/post/UgkxSw1k29V8f0aNwyGI6qRGYJc3E4Y4E… is also excellent! With treats, my dog has learned most of the seven common commands (sit, stay, come, down, heel, off and no). Brandon's love for all animals is baked into every chapter of the book. If you have a puppy or an older dog, i would highly recommend reading every word of this book as it will be a source of pride for you and your dog.

Firm. Fair. Consistency. 90% of what dogs need. If owners could just do those three things most problems would be solved.

This video is PERFECT example of what happens when a high drive, confident dog never gets proper socialization and structure. Early training matters! Kudos to this couple for taking on this challenge and seeing the potential in this rescue dog.

Hey Tom. Oregonian here. I have a neighbor down the street with a reactive dog. She MUST be watching your videos too, because I’ve witnessed her using your methods on a walk with her Bloodhound mix. The NBD Army is everywhere!

Fascinating to see that mix of confidence and fear in Bear. I'm so glad you and his owners shared this because of its rarity. It was kinda funny (as well as being such a huge step forward) to see him air scent you and give you the "That's a hard no from me!" It only serves to reiterate how you always say a dog doesn't have to love everyone, it just can't try to willy nilly chomp people. Once their confidence increases with handling Bear, the trio will do fantastic!
  • Kudos to these owners for picking a hard to train dog from the shelter and actively work to get the dog trained.

Could you ever do updates on how some of these dogs are doing after you’ve worked with them and their owners.
  • @rainaquelle365
I was sooo impressed at 2:53 when you asked for the leash back AFTER the dog tried to take your face off. Your calmness during the face of such naked aggression is inspiring as you work to save the dog. I've never worked with a trainer that would take a dog like that - figure out what is driving the behavior, and teach owners how to communicate expectations with their dog. Awesome and impressive as usual!

It’s great to see such progress for that beautiful dog. Coming from a shelter and not knowing his background, the owners obviously love him very much to get help for him. He will be a much happier soul when he understands his role in the family and can live his best life. Good job, everyone!

Love your videos, Thank you! My first shepherd I purchased while living in west germany in 1984, he was 7 months old when I got him. He had been previously owned by another canadian couple and omg, what a potential disaster! We knew immediately we needed professional help with this dog. We joined the schutzhund club in our area. This was amazing and life changing! The german head trainer was amazing, we went EVERY sunday, rain or shine. There was ALWAYS policemen and border patrol guards there with their canine partners, they were so supportive and generous with their expertise and experience. We were taught SO MUCH! Sadly this shepherd passed away in canada a few short years later, bloat in stomach, devastating to loose this magnificent brilliant animal who was the best friend and partner I've been honoured to love. He truly was one in a million. He had red papers from his german breeders, one of the trainers at the club looked at them and translated for us ( I didn't speak german) Red papers mean the parents AND grandparents have successfully competed, and won, obedience, no hip dysplasia, etc red papers mean quality bloodlines that can be followed. His name was "zero vom vortlicht" we called him blitz Sorry for rambling, I have had many more shepherds since then, all of them benefitted enormously from what we learned at that schutzhund club You are so good, and I like the education you give the owners, we are ALWAYS learning
  • It amazes me every time how quickly the dog picks up on what to do once the owner is taught how to do it♥️ I LOVE seeing the relationship grow right before my eyes!!!
  • Really interesting case. I appreciate the owner's willingness to continue to pursue answers, not giving up! They clearly have some intelligence, openness to new ideas which is a big win for the dog. I like watching Tom assess the situation, and come up with good ideas and solutions. In response to your question, I'm in Indiana.
  • @chanelchau
my cattle dog used to be exactly like this guy 🥺 he kinda looks like him too! thanks to you and your informative videos, we are now able to live a much happier life together ✨🙏🏼 no more lunging at strangers! thank you for all your knowledge and empowerment!
  • @RebeccaGallin
It's like someone taught him stranger danger and he seriously took it to heart! He's a good boy and he is trying to learn. Great job human team but awesome job puppy!!! You got this! 💙💙🐕⭐😊
  • Watching all the way from Zimbabwe! So appreciate all the work you do. I have a Swiss Shephard, Belgian Malinois, BoerbulXsharpei and Poodle! All trained with your methods. There’s nothing better than happy, well balanced, confident dogs! I walk all 4 dogs together with my 5month baby girl at the park never having to worry!
  • South Dakota here! I actually don’t have a dog.. yet. I’ve been binge watching all your videos to get myself prepared for my first dog. Love all the information you give!! 💚
  • Your no nonsense and lack of treat training has really helped me train my dog better. She still has some control issues but, she's only 5 months but she's knee high and over 70 pounds
  • Great segment really depicts how we as owners are inconsistent. Even after you asked the owner to keep the dog on the left or one side, he continued to switch sides. I am so guilty of this very thing. Ty you for this video.
