How to train an aggressive dog for reality as they are trying to attack people is something we work with a lot at the Upstate Canine Academy. This is a dog who is very fearful and unfortunately is taking her fear and unleashing it on people she doesn't know. Tom works with her and her owner to overcome these issues so they can live a less stressed life!

  • this owner needs a hug. She's so anxious that she's shaking and is having trouble managing instructural pressure. I've been there and it suuuuuuuuuucks
  • You can tell how difficult this was for the owner. She seems to really love that dog. You are a gem Tom for helping them out. I hope they do well.
  • @ambermorton5030
I love that the owner was asking lots of questions, it means that she really cares about her dog and just wants the best for Nala! I will admit Iā€™m still working on advocating for my GSD in front of people, itā€™s tough but itā€™s a work in progress.
  • @ozarks_onna
I love her eagerness to learn. We need more dog owners like this.
  • @TASIAawful1
I felt sorry for her sheā€™s so young and looked very overwhelmed at times I would be the same. I wish her and Nala all the best for the future
  • A note to the owner. You are amazing. Thank you for allowing us all to watch the video. No one wants a reactive dog but theyā€™re the cards we are dealt. Good on you for not giving up and not giving your dog up. I hope we get to see how you are going in six months time or so. I learnt a lot of tips for my own dog in this video- thank you for asking questions I would have asked too. All the very best to you.
  • @Dizzycow-Tina
I think the woman asked loads of great questions that many people would want and need to know ā€¦. Great video ..
  • As an owner, handler, and trainer, I can't tell you how happy this owner makes me watching this video. Knew there was a problem she could not manage on her own and she LISTENED to the trainer, asked a TON of questions, and took direction really well. I can't tell you how many owners hear what a trainer is saying but don't ask for clarification if they don't understand. She wants to understand. Getting clarification on heel vs leave it, and when and why to use which command was a total breakthrough and was a pivotal moment in this retrain journey. I would love to see a follow-up on these two.

Anthropomorphizing (treating the animal as if it were a HUMAN) is the biggest problem of many owners of spoiled or vicious dogs. This guy is great at letting the owners know that too much love and no discipline is a major problem that is caused by the OWNWER.
  • It is so hard to be the person the dog is protecting. I feel her frustration as thatā€™s the relationship Iā€™m trying to change with my dog, too. Keep working!! #nobaddogs
  • @boshelby9588
From blood shot pissed off red eyes to relaxed and willing to learn. Great job, Nala! Glad you got to meet, TD!
  • @thejindoman7471
This owner's willingness to learn and put herself on the line is next level. Props šŸ™Œ
  • @Cathan1856
Love how you educate owners to see life from their dogā€™s perspective. I love to listen to you explain things, so good at it. To me, thatā€™s what sets you apart from other trainers.
  • iā€™ve been where this girl has been before and i totally feel her embarrassment/anxiety around it! itā€™s hard when you have a dog thatā€™s reactive and aggressive in certain scenarios, but sheā€™s doing the right thing by taking the necessary steps in order to give her dog the best life possible! i love watching your videos and seeing how you handle each dog, itā€™s super inspiring & youā€™ve helped me so much with my dogs reactivity over the last couple of years!
  • @zoejohnson6473
Sheā€™s such a good girl. Just very insecure and protective. You can overbaby a dog.
  • @rlhydn3438
Instant tears for this girl and her Nala. You can just feel Nalaā€™s insecurity through the screen. She wants to protect her person, her worried, loving person. The wonders of being a strong leading Mumma though, the change is almost instant RELIEF! The connection a dog forms with her person - I find so amazing, doubled edged sword of course as weā€™re not always their perfect human. This video - sums that up beautifully
  • Amazing! He was direct and to the point but didn't treat the owner like an idiot. Wonderful learning environment šŸ‘
  • I appreciated all the lessons learned. Especially seeing the need for us owners to not humanize our fur babies.
  • What a great owner! Asking questions (I got a bit confused on the leave it and heel timing too until she asked), overcoming her fear and wanting what is best for Nala. Tom's amazing calmness and great explanations are so fantastic to watch!
