I've seen and lived your story, Shawn, of course in a different but parallel way. Thank you for opening up and sharing. There is still such a huge stigma about being a junkie and even ex junkie. The polarity in the way people treat you after they know is infuriating. "Friends" act as if you have the black plague. People, especially your Doctors, go from listening to your concerns to treating you as if u are a 2 year old without a mind of your own. I understand that doctors have been constantly attacked and manipulated by addicts making them jaded, but their dismissal of my concerns has directly contributed to my health issues worsening to the point I am now on disability. I felt as if I could scream from the top of my lungs and no one will listen. I don't know if it is because of being jaded, their personal feelings about users, or they simply don't care because they think if you are/were an addict that you didn't care about your health then so why should they help you now. Shawn, no matter how ppl treat you it doesn't matter. How you treat you is what matters! You have a wonderful family that love you and are giving you a chance. I know you have worked harder than anyone to get to where u r now. Keep doing what you are doing....stay honest, stay open, stay in the loving light of your family. As an addict you stayed away from your loved ones due to shame, embarrassment, in ways to protect them from you, and other reasons I'm sure. By sharing your story not only are you your sister's hero, but also mine. Stay strong my friend.
  • Definitely an uplifting story of hardships and the ultimate salvation and recovery from a powerful addiction is no small feat.
  • Keep up on your running when you get home. My dad and i ran with an ex Olympic member with a group of others.

Come on mom. What do you think going to war means. One third can't handle killinng, one third can , and one third like it and come out killers. The bell shaped curve is real.
  • Cool story. I wonder how much the ultra running coach costs and who funds it. And what will be his lifeline when the body can no longer take the high impact of running. Keep finding your way to peace ☮️ ✌🏽

Everyone should have narcan. People do recover from opiod disorder(actually dopamine disorder). Im one. I wish fentanyl would disappear from my rural town. Its horrible and being sold everywhere, especially the nearest gas station to anyone.

There needs to ne better mental health care for all Americans. Unfortunately psychology is the least knowledgeable of the sciences.
