Dr. Feelgood: Healer or Dealer? (1080p) FULL MOVIE - Documentary, Drama, True Crime

Published 2022-05-27
The story of Dr. William Hurwitz - a preeminent pain specialist sentenced to 25 years in prison - provides a window into the ethical dilemma of opioid prescriptions. Painkillers give doctors tremendous power to relieve pain, a primary goal of any physician. But this power begets trouble when the same drugs can lead to addiction, abuse and death. The documentary traces Dr. Hurwitz's trial, detailing the events that lead to his arrest. Testimonies from witnesses in the case contradict one another - some revere him, while others condemn him. Taken together, their accounts reveal a portrait of a compassion yet flawed doctor. The film underscores the tension between every patient's right to pain relief and the lawful need for drug control. In 2016 prescription drugs kill more Americans than HIV or homicide, and more than heroin and cocaine combined. There could not be a more critical time to spark a discussion on this topic and call for careful though and action.

I’d go into a full blowdown melt down every time I went to a doctor, until I was finally allowed to go pain management. The people at the clinic basically saved my life. It’s a shame pain management clinic’s get such a bad rep. I no longer worry when I go to the doctors, it’s a great feeling when u go into a doctors office and they really listen to u

This man saved my life, and my father's life. I love you Dr. Hurwitz. He gave up everything to take care of the undertreated and ignored patients who truly suffered. I can only wish that I had something to give him. The government took everything from him, including his dignity.

I’m in severe chronic pain due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. My doctor flatly refused to give me any pain medication. I use Ibuprofen, Flexiril, and lots of topical products like icy hot and biofreeze. Do any of these remedies help? Not really. I just live with the pain. I did try a lot of the biologics used to treat RA, but I was allergic to most of them. So I suffer with debilitating pain every day. There is very little hope for me as far as pain relief is concerned. I have no quality of life, but there’s nothing I can do. It’s a hopeless situation.

I feel his intentions were right. He wanted to help people heal their pain. It was the people who abused the pain medication by greed and selling them. I see kindness in his eyes. Now people that really need the pain meds cannot get them because of the greed of some of the patients. Just my opinion of course.
  • Dr. Hurwitz was an amazing physician. Unfortunately he couldn’t discern who the bad apple were. Chronic pain must be treated. Addiction is those treated by a healthcare provider have less than 1% of addiction.

Bret McCarter wasn’t worried about his son until he was facing 20 years. These cowards will use any excuse to justify playing both sides. How many lives did he help destroy with his slick little side hustle?

I think they got divorced only to secure their bag. 😮

We don't need the background music. Too distracting.
  • Over the past fifteen years, eight surgeries, and multiple hospitalizations; his pain management dr informed him he no longer prescribing pain meds. Ok, he saw the writing on the wall and weened off and the pain came back!! He lost his job so he couldn't afford to see the doctor anymore and was so, so sick. Omg! The drs office didn't even call or inquire about him. Thought he was going to die.
  • I feel for the guy that lost his wife but what kinda crap is that, him telling her she had to quit when she was probably in less pain than she'd been in for a long time.

Unfortunately you can’t get test for pain you have to go off of what the patient is telling you.

I'm was recovered addict from youth then was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia aka the suicide disorder and ms I am currently on opiates I take responsible not every patient is the said and shouldn't be denied medication regardless of it being opiates monitored yes doctors don't make addiction poor choices do we are taught as addicts to own our choices own our addiction not blame shift its not easy taking responsibility for our choices but there our choices and because of my medications which aren't all opiates and aren't large doses I'm capable of being a better wife better mother I'm still in pain and to be honest alot but that's because I chose my lower doses because I could acknowledge it was addictive and new to do better and I have family members who knew that in the end my choices were mine and not there's not the doctors so they helped me learn to be strong through love sometimes tough and sometimes not I don't see ppl making addicts that are addiction to food or wild animals this big both kill as well
  • 80,000 pills in 4 years!?! WTH he needed a psychiatrist to get to the root of why he would be so reckless. I just can't imagine... what did the pharmacist think of this irresponsible doctor? This was unreal.
  • Imagine if they treated and had the same regulations on alcohol like they do opiates. If they care so much about addiction, why not? Alcohol is a drug that is just as bad. You don't punish a whole group of people who are really suffering because the system was abused by pill mills/doctor shopping/people who just wanted to get high. People cannot doctor shop anymore and it is all centralized. They can prescribe it; a lot of doctors just do not want to.
