POTENTIALLY 8 DAYS OF TERROR CROSSING THE NORTH ATLANTIC FROM BROOKLYN, NY TO SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND.

We left Brooklyn, NY on a sunny but cold day. When we boarded the ship the captain made it very clear we were going to face multiple storms. And we did! THANK GOODNESS WE WERE ON THE QUEEN MARY 2!

The Queen Mary 2 is the only actively sailing ocean liner in the world. We were so fortunate to be able to sail on her from New York to Southampton and eventually on to Perth Australia. However the 8 day sailing from New York to Southampton was a journey all by itself with 3 straight days and nights of massive storms and one day of gale force winds. The Queen Mary 2, because of her ocean liner design and the way she was built, handled all the storms like a hot knife through butter. We felt a little rocking and felt safe the whole time. We really embraced the storms only because of the way the ship could handle them.

We think if it was any other ship we may have had a “may-day” situation. It was 3 straight days & nights of 30 to 40 foot sea swells, extremely high winds, snow and ice.

We were able to have some fun with the situation only because the QM2 made it safe for us.

Thank you for coming along on our journey around the world.

I was on this crossing and opted to not go outside. I enjoyed the warm comfort inside watching the ocean boil while sipping vino and nodding off with a book from the very impressive library.
  • That's the best thing about being on the Queen Mary 2. It's not a cruise ship, it's an actual ocean liner as you say, built specifically to withstand this type of weather without any issues whatsoever whilst crossing the Atlantic. Your vlog is a perfect example of this. What a beauty she really is. I hope you enjoyed your time on it. I enjoyed watching. Great video👍🏽.

Your Captain was very right his ship is built for the North Atlantic weather for: "Cruise ships sail around storms....Ocean Liners sail through them".

The best ship in the world to be onboard in a storm! She's so very stable.
  • We crossed in October 2022, Southampton-New York. Very heavy seas for three days and the ship did not roll at all and pitched very little. This ship is built for heavy seas and rides through them magnificently.

"The only way to cross"! Great to see QM2 in her true element, she's unique. Thanks for sharing this great example of a proper winter crossing! I'm glad they keep her on liner service in all seasons.
  • I was on this crossing! I loved the weather, the high seas, the snow, all of it! I remember seeing you filming the couple in the hot tub… and I spotted myself in the Queen’s Room on Twenties Night. 😆 Too funny! Thanks for the video. It was a crossing to remember.

Being on a cruise ship in the middle of the Atlantic with a snowstorm what more could you ask for❄❄❄☃️👍
  • Love this, would love to be sailing with yourselves, you are both so friendly and look good fun to spend time with. Continue your have a fabulous cruise. 🛳️😘
  • Yes sir,Queen Mary 2,is a true ocean liner. We sailed her back in 2004 to the Caribbean from New York City when she left from the Manhattan cruise terminal. She is a fine ship

My father was a plate boy on a North Atlantic crossing to Montreal. In about 1930. He described the crossing as one foot in the floor with the other foot on the wall and then when it rolled the other way you put the floor foot on the other wall. He was on a white star liner so consider conditions in those days. He also said to stop sea sickness just eat digestives to soak up !!!!! Tales like that give a little perspective.
  • Great video!!! I love how positive and fun you are! We'll be on the QM2 in June, I'm guessing the weather will be less complex!
  • Samuel Cunard was from my hometown of Halifax. So all of the Queens mean a lot to us.

Really enjoyed this. You'd made it feel like I was there.

This weekend (jan 20) the Cunard Queen Victoria arrived in Port Canaveral Florida. Look like Carnival Corp. is moving some of its Cunard ship toward america. They also moved some of their P&O UK ship to the U.S. One of them was in Miami this weekend.
  • So jealous you got weather that shows what she can do! I'm on her again in the spring, and I hope we'll have at least one day of window-washers.

Great video. Sailing on the QM2 - what a joy and a privilege and such a proper way to travel! Nothing like a bit of inclement weather to make the inside feel all snug and cosy too 🙂
