There are many musicians in the world, but few who can transmit the joy of music as well as Ramsey Lewis.

Jazz pianist, three-time Grammy winner, and NEA Jazz Master Ramsey Lewis, who successfully crossed over from the Jazz charts to the Pop charts, most notably with his smash hit “The In Crowd,” died peacefully at his home in Chicago on the morning of September 12, 2022. He was 87.
  • I was present at that concert, the first edition of the Montreal Jazz Festival. NO frills, no lights, no magics.... just PURE DELIGHT OF MUSIC !!! This is one of the best concert I ever attended. Thanks for posting, brings back very good memories
  • I've only just learned of his passing today and I'm deeply saddened. Ramsey was such an elegant pianist. You can see the pure joy radiating from him while playing this tune. He is sadly missed RIP.

He has such a great style of his own. Not wanting to pigeon-hole anyone, and not having the benefit of being exposed to this period's music, I'm incline to say his music reminds me of the laid back, happy go lucky melancholic vibe that one conjures up listening to a similar tune of that time, Mr. Bob Jame's Angela (Taxi theme). It has that special, euphoric and magical power to transport one from their current time to that special, muted and simplified time of the late 70s and early 80s profoundly affecting and uplifting the individual with each and every single note and nuanced auditory caress.

Man the smile on their faces is everything

I could listen to this music forever! A fan of Ramsey Lewis from the 1970's and still got his Wade in the Water vinyl LP!! I want You Are The Reason played at my funeral when I'm carried out! 48-backwards tomorrow (NYE) so might not be waiting many years ! 🙂🙏
  • Sweet and dandy, funky and jazzy. The whole performance made me happy.

Ramsey and the Quartet rock. Their chemistry is self-evident

Thank you so much for this. "You Are The Reason" has been my favorite since about 1980. I was only 13 that time.
  • This is the best piano playing in this present generation. I love Ramsey Lewis' YOU ARE THE REASON and BETCHA BY GOLLY WOW!!! He is the epitome of finger dexterity and note clarity both. And his smile, very casual but conveys every melody coming from his heart!!! I never get tired listening to these 2 pieces of him over and over and over again. I wish I could play my piano even just close to how he does. I don t think there will be another one like him at least in my lifetime♥️♥️♥️
