Great to be joined by leading trainer Donald McCain on Luck On Sunday. McCain spoke to Nick Luck about his career, as a trainer, growing up with Red Rum, his training methods and much more. A fascinating interview, even if we do say so ourselves!

  • What a lovely humble man! Great trainer who has come through adversity after the Rooney episode. And to provide the 2 time champion jockey with so many winners just shows what a good operation he's running at Cholmondley! Best wishes Don!
  • What lovely memories. As the 1973 Grand National got nearer I asked the editor of Malta's biggest newspaper, The Times of Malta if I could write an article about the forthcoming big race at Aintree. He said yes. To my amazement my forecast of the first three in the right order came through. RED RUM, CRISP, L'ESCARGOT. i still have the newspaper cutting after 50 years.
  • Terrific interview. No airs and graces. I'm sure going to be top trainer for many more years. Trained overturn remarkably well under both codes. hopefully see you in winners enclosure in punchestown soon or Galway again. Continued success from Irish racing fan.
  • WoW if I ever fulfill my dream of being able to own a racehorse outright I’d only want one man to train it Donald Mcain.

Good bloke. No wonder he trains so many winners. Must have been tough to step out of Ginger’s shadow but he’s done it with grace.
  • I have Gingers autobiography at home and noticed that Ginger moved him from a rough school to a good school

The old yard at Southport is still there behind the showroom. Hes right about the beach , miles of golden sand now ruined. Marahland and star grass . Left Wing council ruined it.
