  • That really is his father, who at the time of this song, needed a kidney transplant to avoid his death but couldn’t get a donor, but almost too late,a relative came forward to donate his kidney and james blunts dad survived. Powerful vid though, done in one take at James’s request.

I lost my dad a little over 4 years ago. He taught me car repair, self reliance, how to be a good man and how to be a great husband. Everything I am is due to his teachings. I am still devastated and trying to deal with the fact that he isn't a phone call away when I need advice. This song destroyed me the first time I heard it.

This song always hits hard. I did hospice at my home for my mom’s last 3 day, & now my dad is 97, I help care for him along with my sisters. Taking care of a loved one those days before they die is an honor & privilege, and absolutely gut wrenching at the same time. Miss my mom so much, she was my person.

This song would bring a tear to a glass eye, one of the most pure and raw songs l have ever heard , a true master piece.

my dad died 2 years ago and this song still makes me cry like a little baby bless you Aileen and RIP dad

I lost my father when I was 12 to ALS. He saved my life three times and I couldn't save his. He was my best friend. This song hits too hard.
  • This is the shittiest part of getting older. Watching your parents pass, especially when it’s a long & painful process, is rough.

One of the best reactions, when someone gets emotional it shows how human they are
  • So glad you caught the "pat" at the end of the video. So many people miss the subtle gesture that has so much power and meaning behind it. Lovely reaction, thanks.

To add a bit more context james served in the British army as a captain during the kosovo war in the Balkans and his father is a retired colonel and both men come from the tradition of stiff upper lip officers

The good news is that it is not his ‘late’ father. His dad found a donor and got a kidney transplant and survived. Great reaction.

This song simply destroys everyone. Countless tears have been shed across the reactor world. Even those that don’t cry have to pause and take it slow because it weighs so heavy on the heart.

My father in law passed away three years ago, One of the last things he said to me was "Take care of my family for me." That broke me. I promised him I would, and I'm trying my best.

Lost my dad 2 years ago....still miss him every day

I'm 53 years old, and I'm the father in this video. I'm dying from stage 5 renal failure. This song tears me apart every time I hear it, for it makes me face my own end. How do I tell my wife and children how and what I feel. It hurts more than anything I've ever known. Thank you.
  • I know no other song that cuts this deep. This is something most of us will need to deal with, the loss of a loved one. It never gets easy.

Hi Aileen Greetings from England 🇬🇧 James Blunt wrote this song about his father who had Stage 4 Kidney Disease and this song was to express the emotions he was feeling about his fathers illness and thankfully his father had a successful Kidney transplant and thats his father with him in the video and Jmes Blunt is such a great songwriter and his song "YOUR BEAUTIFUL" is such a heartfelt love song and you should really check out this song Aileen you will love it.

Such a beautiful but heartbreaking song from an amazing artist and person, never be sorry for emotion

Amazing reaction. I was raised at a time when men were supposed not to cry. If you felt a teat coming, you get up and take.a walk. But this s9ng does bring a tear every time I hear it does bring a tear. My dad was a rock the first time I saw my dad cry when my brother was killed in an accident . It destroyed my mom. I felt I had to be strong for the family , so I buried it. That was a mistake because it led me down a dark path of anger and drinking. I am 21 years sober now, sometimes being a rock leads to several being left in your head. We lost Pops in 2021 he had COPD and dementia so at 85 he passed. The greatest thing was my brother's and sister, along with nieces and nephews all came during the 2 weeks he laid in palliative care. We had so many laughs living old times. Singing and joking, remembering our experience. Our family is spread throughout Canada, so it was healing to have that time with each other. This song brings heartache and learning to cope, so it does bring a tear. I guess I went from Rockhead to an old softy.

‘Chase the monsters away’ is such a powerful phrase, that’s all us men do for whole lives. Don’t care what anyone says men are a force to be reckoned with, one that needs love and affection just as much as women.
