SMB3 was one of the best sellers of its time, and one of the best official Super Mario Bros. platformers ever made. It is perhaps because of this reason that the graphics were exhaustively ripped, and commonly used in fan games.

... perhaps too commonly, unfortunately. It might seem like nothing, but after playing dozens of games with those graphics it gets a bit old after a while (as our friends over at MFGG can attest). And since they are the default graphics for commonly used Game Maker sources (e.g. Hello Mario Engine), it has been argued that they symbolize the massive number of effortless engine clones that have been made by the unimaginative, the lazy, and the innocently ignorant. The style isn't bad per se, but the original graphics have gotten a bit stale.

Here is a test implementing some of Shikaternia's custom SMB3 tileset, as well as some tile edits by myself.

Now lest any of you get any funny ideas, the changes you see in this video are unofficial; it is possible that these tile replacements may not wind up in an official SMF:R release.

That said, I really like the trick of digging sand the way they did in SMB2.  That could work out really well if used properly.  Good luck.

It seems like a lot of SMB3 remakes are trying to turn the game into the NES version of SMWorld. Where's the variety added by the frog/racoon/etc suits? USE THOSE!

Do you have anywhere where we can still download the playable game after the clustefuck I know as the shutting down of Super Mario Fusion Revival.
