The Grave of British Wrestler Giant Haystacks. Agecroft Cemetery. Salford. Manchester

At one point, he was possibly amongst the most recognisable faces in the United Kingdom. In the 1970s and 80s, British wrestling on World of Sport was watched by millions. The man who got the cheers was Big Daddy, but every hero needs a villain to face....and that man was Giant Haystacks.

A true Giant at almost 7 feet tall, Haystacks was a hugely popular character for 2 decades in the UK and also had stints in America and Canada, notably his last year as a wrestler...as 'Loch Ness' in WCW.

I was lucky to once see the man himself at Todmorden Town Hall in the early 90s.

This month marks 25 years since the passing of the big man, so we visited Agecroft Cemetery in Salford, Manchester to show our respects to a legend.

This brings back happy memories of me sitting in front of the TV, watching wrestling while playing with my Lego and waiting for my mum to make tea.

I remember watching him. He seemed such a humble man. 💐💐💐

A very compassionate and respectful video. Well done to you, sir. You and I are obviously from the same generation - ITV Saturday afternoons dominated by Giant Haystacks, Big Daddy, Kendo Nagasaki, Jackie 'TV' Pallo, cauiflower-eared Mick McManus, Les Kellett, British Bulldog, Fit Finlay, Mark Rocco - the list is a long one. All presented by Dickie Davies with perfect commentary courtesy of Kent Walton. It was only recently that I was informed that DD had a monumental moustache. I actually thought that he was permanently eating a cat. Simpler, more innocent times. I can't help feeling that we've lost so much. Thanks again for the lovely upload. Best wishes from Derbyshire. EDIT - how could I not mention Jim Breaks? The constant threat of the 'Breaks Special' hold struck abject fear into every opponent.

It would have been good to see a match between Giant Haystacks and Andre The Giant..

Wow - memories of the late 1970s or early 80s on a Saturday morning as a kid seeing him and another Northern type(? I think) - Big Daddy and him belly-battle it out... 😛=

49 stone in weight?! No chance of a fast back-flip off the ropes to land perfectly and face his opponent I'm guessing ;-) - He did well to last with his couple of trademark moves really...
