  • To be honest, bill tarmey set the bar so high with his portrayal of jack that corrie hasnt been the same since he and the other actors of his generation left. Rip.

I remember watching an interview in the 90s where Bill Tarmey said something along the lines of "I don't kid myself, if I left, no-one would remember. Coronation Street would be exactly the same". Now here we are 25 odd years later, and people are literally still visting his grave to pay their respects. What a legend.

I loved it when he called Vera, “my little swamp duck!” I have to confess I shed more than a tear when they both died, on TV and in real life. RIP Jack & Vera. (Bill Tarmey & Elizabeth Dawn)

Looking forward to Bill Tarmeys tribute. Still miss Jack and Vera . They were brilliant value as a double act 🎬
  • I’m not a massive soap fan either but Jack and Vera were an institution . A representation of a true couple in love , constantly bickering but adored each other . When the characters passed away it was handled with perfection by Coronation Street . Watching this video prompted me to re- watch the scenes . 👍🏻

In case you are wondering (As I did!) 'His stage name of Bill Tarmey came from appearing at a club in Stockport where the manager insisted that Bill Piddington was too long to go on a poster. He had wanted to give him the surname of the singer Mel Tormé, but misspelled it as Tarmey.' Funny how these things work out!
  • @Karin-
Haven't watched Corrie in years, but back in the day when it had Jack and Vera, Hilda and Stan and many others, that is when it was watchable. All these years later, I'm just finding out his real name. Where have I been? LOL 🙄 Thanks for this video 😊
  • Another famous person we all grew up with, now sadly gone. Himself and Vera were Coronation Street gold, along with Stan and Hilda. May they all rest in peace now ❤
  • Bill Tarmey, Liz Dawn, Jean Alexander and Bernard Youens; mention any of these names and one immediately thinks of Coronation Street. Being a Northerner, I used to watch 'Constipation Street', as we affectionately called it, avidly when I was a child. Each brought realism, with their constant bickering and their own sense of humour to the show; those were the days when Corrie was worth watching. Sadly, all have now passed and are very much missed.
  • Coronation Street in the 90's with Jack and Vera just reminds me going to my grans house in the evening . It was always on the television when I went to visit

Very interesting about Bill’s life. Took years for Jacks glasses to be repaired in Corrie. However I am intrigued about the reference to his Dad which I will have to research. Thanks for this ❤️
  • @garychard3894
Still one of my favourite Corrie moments when Vera came back for him.......Great goodbye to 2 of the most charismatic characters in the soap.
  • i don't watch soaps anymore, but have seen Jack and Veras antics over the years and they were hilarious xx thanks Paul.

  • It was the only time when soaps were worth the watching. No violence or nastiness just plain old-fashioned amusement!
