Published 2022-04-11
This video recaptures our experience in the last year of ownership. We have put on 12,500 miles in that year. There were a few issues, we take some time to talk through what was done in this past year. We leave it up to you to determine if the Land Rover is Dependable. Can a Defender be a reliable vehicle? We talk specific to the 90 in a couple areas.

I’ve had my Defender (P-400, 4-door) for 2.5 years now. Zero problems. Totally reliable and a joy to drive. I love it. Sold the Porsche Macan for lack of use. Kept the 911.
  • Ive had my 90 XS P400 for 3 months now and I absolutely fucking love it. Smooth, comfortable & fast AF. I'm super happy

My dad just bought one, right after I grabbed ‘23 4Runner TRD Pro. Love them both. Looking forward to trails ahead!!!

Yeah great video. I got my 2022 defender 90 base model with the 18” steel wheels and I take it off-roading quite a bit, love the thing, turns on a dime in the city or off-road. Did get a crack in the windshield and all windshield are on backorder so who knows when I’ll get it replaced. You guys did the best review of the 90 thanks!

You guys are so great for this and the other Defender 90 videos. I just got my 2023 Defender 90 S - 4 cylinder and have a couple of hundred miles now. Love, love, love this vehicle. My wife may even be a bigger fan. You helped me make the final decision a while back by your well-detailed descriptions and comments on the 90. I also have the white color with the two-tone white roof. I added a few items that I highly recommend (the divider trays for the front and rear parts of the consoles, an aluminum trim that overlays the "Defender" stamped on the inside gate, step rails, and a black aluminum license frame from LR). I also changed the tires to the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac 255/55/19 which lowered it 2 inches and gave it a nice aggressive look without road noise. It also has the Windsor leather seat option in "light oyster" that compliments the inside well. This really gives it a luxury feel (but beware if you are not a clean rider although it has guaranteed color protectant). Absolutely would buy this again and again. I agree also on the coil springs. I just traded my LR RR Sport with air suspension and I think the Defender actually rides better and without the worry of maintenance down the road. Previous to that I owned a Jeep Wrangler and cannot stress the major difference in the two. I drove away with the sticker price of $64k and will never regret it. The dealer said people saw it hit the lot (even though I built it and had my name as "sold" on it) that people were begging to buy it before I picked it up. Again, you nailed the reviews dead on and I am a fan for life!!

Interesting what you mentioned about the perceived unreliability. There really needs to be a better metric for measuring the reliability of a vehicle…
  • guys glad to see you again! thank you for your expierance! I am owning defender s 2022 p300 110 7 seats already more than half year! the same problems with driver seat(! dealer ignore this issue at all ! the same problem with driver speaker , dealer could not find problem!( quality of assembly is not perfect...BUT : love this car all my hearth and could not imagine on what I can replace it)! driving this car in California and my MPG near 15MPG...((and price on fuel in Costco 6$...now I in Minnesota by the work and spring is fantastic!) we moved from Minnesota one year ago and missing this amazing state! now Land Rover defender in real investment;)!

ah geeze, I have my ordered defender being built right now. Hopefully they fixed these issues on the 2023's! That said I had similar issues with my 2018 RRS that is being traded in- most of the issues were minor annoyances that were fixed right away. Land Rover customer service is some of the best in the biz!
  • 4 years now and I never had any such problem with my Toyota. In fact, zero problem. At such price, I think that's very disappointing.
  • I’ve watched all your Defender vids as I’m seriously considering one. They have confirmed both my fears and hopes. I’ve had a Gen 1 Disco that was 100% trouble free for 170k, and a Range Rover that was a bit “persnickety” from day 1. It’s such a roll of the dice with LR. If it’s good for the first 10k, keep it forever. If it’s trouble, flip it and run. That’s the position I’m taking. Thanks for the detailed information.

The speaker situation is 100% correct. A software update awhile back fixed it mostly.

I've had a P400e for a year, absolutely nothing wrong with it, perfect, very comfortable and love it
  • @williamguillIII
That's a nice review of your wife's vehicle! I love everything about these Defenders. Going off road, the 2 door is the one you want to have though.
  • @pv2870
I drive a 1998 TDI. It made it home after hitting a concrete barrier at 50mph. No airbags or warning lights to annoy you, even with the engine torn off its mounts. Doesn't steer. Doesn't brake or accelerate. Noisy, smokey, uncomfortable... Love it.

Great review guys, the 90 will always be a unique vehicle, 👍
