"How To" video number 32: Backside 180 a.k.a. BS 180, Pineapple Twist

This has been one of the most requested how to videos over the last few years. Maybe now you'll see why I put it off for so long... I'm not very good at BS 180s! But I tried my best to give you some insights into how I do this trick and what has helped me figure them out a little better. Hopefully this video will help you get them down a little better and understand some fixes you can make to improve yours.

The main things to take away from this are:
Swing them shoulders boi!
You don't HAVE to pivot but it might help you.

P.S. Sorry about the slightly dark lighting, it was super cloudy when I filmed.

As always, good luck with this one! You definitely can learn it if you try.

Thank you for watching!

One of the hardest basic tricks, in my opinon!
  • @rickgoodman5413
I can kickflip but I can't bs 180, perfect timing for this video :)
  • @Switchkyng
I learned these 4 years into skating just because I hated how uncomfortable it felt. Great video! Nice methods.
  • @bruhman1520
These are so helpful. Especially because you ride regular and that's so hard for me to find on YouTube. Seems like everyone rides goofy

Omg I’ve been trying to do it for a week and I rewatched this video and when he said “don’t duck your head” and did it with out ducking my head and I got it
  • Was struggling with these until you mentioned winding up your shoulders I immediately landed one no joke thanks dude this really helped a lot! Now to get them consistent.

I’ve been practicing this trick when I’ve thought I was practicing frontside 180s🤦‍♂️
  • @sadhvacman7238
Never been able to do the backside ollie. Board just flies out into oblivion. Such a different animal than the frontside. Glad you finally made this one.
  • @DJCoop1
excellent as always my man. the detail with the different learning techniques you go in to in this one is awesome. more like this please and THANK YOU. keep shredding 👌
  • @qbagel
Dude your videos are the greatest. I both mastered the ollie and accomplished the frontside 180 just this week, thanks to you. Before, I watched the tutorials from Braille Skateboarding, and they only helped me get a general idea. Your details made it seem a lot simpler, which was probably what made me fully commit into the tricks. Thank you so much for just existing.

The turning shoulders tip really helped, even with my rock and rolls, im glad you go in depth with these more basic tricks
  • @maddom
I just started getting back 180s somewhat consistent and all of your tips are spot on! Especially the tendency to dip your body too far forwards is exactly what I had to overcome too finally land them. I do shift my weight to my front foot alot though, it seems to help me keep my balance if I'm able to pivot a little bit in the end. This video should help a lot of people :)

    You’re such a good teacher

Hey Vlskate, just wanted to say I love your videos! I also think its cool how humble you are, for example you say "You can like and subscribe if you want," instead of what a lot of youtubers say which is "Like and subscribe!" which has a tendancy to sound cringy and forceful and assumptive that I like the video. You really explain the tricks well and your videos have really helped me to learn how to start skateboarding at age 24. I have been skating 9 months and can ollie, shuvit, frontside 180, learning to backside 180, and can popshuvit, all because of your videos! Thank you so much for being the best instructional skater on youtube, your videos mean the world to me!
  • @7DiamondMantis
Solid advice, can't wait to try it again now! Thank you!!
  • @soirallem25
AYOOO that tip you said keeping your back more straight and head up helped so much!!!!!
  • @mady3276
Backside 180s are a lot easier for me than frontside 180s for me. I learned the backside before the frontside
