Teaching your dog to fetch can be a daunting task, but I break it down in this video with the Duane O Mator. He's a very green dog so you will see all the mistakes in real time. I left most of them in so that you can learn how to handle them. Its not often you'll see this much work, but Duane is a high drive dog.

The retrieve is also called FETCH or BRING, but the basics are all the same. I will have a much longer and more detailed version of the FETCH on my members section which should be up next week.

So many videos show demonstrations with previously trained dogs; i absolutely love seeing the whole progression with duane, the patience of robert and how much repetition is required. Gives a touch of reality to what dog handlers actually go through with their own dogs and gives me some heart that i'm doing ok with my pup. Thanks so much for this video!
  • I honestly believe you are one of the best trainers in the world......thank you very much kind sir for doing what you are doing!
  • Robert, awesome stuff. The reason I watch your videos is that all of the other trainers never show you the process of training like you do…the good the bad and the ugly. Others only show the before and after. Keep up the great videos

This is exactly what I needed. I've been struggling so much with getting my puppy to drop the toy once he comes back. And every time I introduced a treat, he would stop caring about this game. But I think I was just expecting too much from him too quickly. You break the game down into such simple steps, and I think this will really help. Thank you!

My GSD returns the ball now and I teach him "Aus" in order to get the second ball. Thank you for this lesson.
  • I’m 46 years old & have never been an animal lover so to speak. Recently I took on an 8week old mini Maltese retriever (against the wishes of all but one other family member) so I knew I needed to train the puppy to avoid any backlash and cycles of tension as a result of the pup toileting inside, chewing others belongings, barking uncontrollably etc.. etc.. I’ve learned so much from your beautiful style of training Robert Cabral & I’m so greatful I found you. My pup “Cinnamon” 16 weeks now is Loved by all family members including myself & my husband we adore her & she adores us. My two teens absolutely love her & my 3 grandchildren love me to bits all the more because of the positive only experiences we have together with her. I highly recommend all your videos to any of my contacts & friends that I see have puppies or dogs.
  • This is the best fetch lesson I have seen on youtube and trust me I've seen a lot and tried a lot. Thanks, Robert 👍

This is so good. In all the previous videos I have seen the trainer seems to do it so fast and easy.It is amazing to watch the whole process and my lab acts almost the same way as Dwayne. This is so helpful. Thanks a lot.

Dwain has lovely drive. I start with the 2 object method to start as well . Very similar technique that I use. Love seeing the mistakes left in. Great to see a non heavily edited video. Thank you Robert : )
  • Great lessons in how to teach your dog, really appreciate your efforts and advice. I absolutely love those lessons.

Your videos are very helpful, i really appreciate them...thank you.
  • Great Video!  I had always used the two balls, but I learned the "Bring" and stepping back in this video. Great Job!!
  • Yes, I also love the demonstrations with the puppy, combined with the polished work with Goofy. It's incredibly helpful. I've been working on the calm hold on the table before seeing this video. Now I've got the picture and can't wait to try it. Gold!
  • Love the fact that it's just not the dog that needs training also the trainer . Keep up the great work and dedication to the video for us to train our dogs with success! Thanks

I just discovered your videos and I'm loving them. It's nice to hear that puppies should be puppies, and dog training should be fun :D

I guess I got lucky with my first lab, I would just ask her to do things and she just did it. I honestly did very little training with her and she was a great dog for 15 years RIP Chacha. I have a new lab and either I have changed something or I just had a very special dog regardless I’m having to learn to how to communicate with my new dog. Great video!
