7.8 on the Richter scale is absolutely insane. Not many people know but the scale is logarithmic so 7.8 is actully 10 times worse than 6.8 and has 33 times the energy. Scary stuff!
  • Such tragedies for both countries . May the souls of the dead from both countries rest in peace, and the survivors if any, be cared and looked after. My prayers are with them.😢😢

So sad. As someone who lived for a few years in Turkey for work I’m not surprised by the devastation. The building codes are not up to snuff for an earthquake zone and corruption in the building trades has resulted in many buildings not up to the codes that do exist in Turkey. This is so gut wrenching to see and my heart goes out to all the victims.
  • Ive been to Turkey. Turkish people are very nice. This is tragic & very sad news. wishes for recovery and hope for as many more survivors as possible, 🙏🙏🙏

Here in Syria, the bad structure of buildings and the poor health care equipments , add to that , the bad weather conditions , the lack of experience and preparations for such crisis... the chaos in the country ... and so many other factors, made the situations even worse and more horrific.
  • This is heartbreaking. My thoughts and preyers are with these countries 😢 x

I feel like earthquake is getting stronger and closer to each other in resent years. All countries need to adapt japanese building code. Better be safe than sorry. Our country also have met numerous small earthquakes last year. It was more than i have experienced in my life in single year. Such big apartments house so many people. Buildings are getting taller and taller , almost no safety space in between. There is just no time to run out of 16 store buildings during earthquake or fire! Specially in corrupted countries buildings barely follow their own building code. Much worse would happen if 7.8 magnitude were to hit our country. I imagine 70 percent of whole city collapsing with quality of buildings i see . They are only flashy inside with marble lobbies, but structure itself is cheap af. Government and building companies are only looking for todays profit. People are buying such mediocre apartments with all their savings without knowing the danger.

  • Very tragic. My condolences goes to all the victims’ families. My heart breaks. So many death caused by Natural disaster. It is so good to know that some of the world’s countries are sending helps, foods, & material aids. God blesses those who gave. The best money spent. One of the best good deed is helping fellow human beings. This is one of the worse Natural disasters I have ever seen in my life.
