The Kursk region of Russia is no stranger to war. Some of the fiercest battles of World War Two were fought on its dark soil. President Zelensky has confirmed for the first time that it is the Ukrainian military advancing there.

It appears the incursion by Ukraine is aimed at destabilising Putin and his military command. For its part Russia is promising a "tough response" to an incursion it says makes "no sense" from a military point of view.

Almost as if you can't expect your enemy to fight back. Leave Ukraine and they'll leave too

It's incredible how many lives Putin already has on his conscience.
  • Demonstrating the difficulty that Russian Military Leaders have understanding multiple problems simultaneously. It's a blessing to Russia that they are NOT engaging directly NATO forces. Had they, perhaps Kaliningrad and much of Belarus would be changing hands very quickly and imagine forces crossing over from Finland and Turkey too. The multiprong war with NATO in the East and North would show how incapable Russia is in fighting on multiple fronts. Too bad now that there is NOT a push in Georgia and Chechnya to move Russian forces out. That probably would be met with little Russian resistance.

Ukrainians are fast moving, well armed and well trained. No point in trench warfare they have to attack and move.

In a social media post on August 8th 2024, Dmitry Medvedev wrote: “We can and we should take more land of the Ukraine that still exists. [We should go to] Odessa, to Kharkiv, to Dnipro, Mykolaiv. To Kyiv and onwards.” Further proof that russia has no interest in exchanging land for 'peace'.
