  • 40 years ago, when I was an electronics tech, I wouldn't have thought twice about de-soldering and re-soldering to replace a battery. Now....I haven't seen or owned a solder gun or solder-sucker for decades and have no intention of going that route again. On a whim, I bought a battery and new charger for my Norelco 7616x, thinking it would be great to resurrect that great, easy to use and eaay to clean shaver. When I popped it open, I was disappointed. When looking at youtube videos, showing the process, I figured that I just wasted my money. Then, I happened upon your video. In 3 minutes or less, the shaver works great with new batteries in it! It's now charging for later use. Sometimes we don't see the easiest solution.... but you nailed it! Thanks!

This might be the best kept secret on YouTube. Was dreading the soldering project for my 18-yr-old Norelco 8890xl, but did NOT want to give it up. Thank you...incredibly helpful. Ditto Robert...works perfectly. Note: units like the 8890 don't have the plastic between the batteries and circuit board. I cut-to-fit a heavy weight piece of paper to keep the board and terminals apart.

Worked perfectly and so much easier than taking the whole shaver apart.

I used this method on my 7340XL norelco shaver. It worked great and I was able to connect the tabs on the new battery to the tabs already soldered to the circuit board. It worked, and the batteries charged, but they discharged in about 10 hours. The shaver still works as a corded device so the battery and shaver tabs must still be in contact, but the battery will not hold the charge. Did you have this experience? How long do your replacement batteries hold their charge? I'm glad I found your video because I can still use the shaver with the cord but wish I could understand why the replacement battery discharges so quickly.

disgusts me that they don't make it like that from the factory!
