Teaching a dog to recall INSTANTLY when called. 100% REAL dog training. Clip 2.

Published 2021-10-22
Clip two in the step by step recall training process for a dog with a very high prey drive. The dog has disappeared for extended periods of time, hunting other animals. She has also run from a park, failing to recall across a central London road where she was hit by a bus.

She is so engaged with you nothing else matters. Dog owners need to understand that they need to be exciting to the dog. Thank you Jamie .

Glad to see this, as at first I was repetitively whistling to get him to come. Thought I was overdoing it with the whistle & treats. Love seeing proper videos like this, rather than before & after and no middle.
  • This area is one that has fewer distractions than the Clip 1. Controlling the level of distractions is an important factor. There are enough natural stimuli here to keep the dog interested in getting distracted, but not so stimulating as to keep the dog at high drive in prey mode. This sort of intentional control of the level of distraction sets the dog and the handler up for a successful session of learning. I am curious to know if the tone function of an e-collar will work as well as a whistle? Great videos. Useful techniques. Thank you Jamie.
  • Bloody brilliant Iโ€™m going to try this method Iโ€™ve got a 4 year old working cocker spaniel sheโ€™s not bad off the lead but she could be better

So do you always need to have a whistle to do a recall? Or do/can you integrate a recall command word as well?

just come across this series, i have a working line springer spaniel inherited from my dad who passed away and he isnt at all interested in tearts whilst outside. Is there any way of making this work with a toy/ball?

Love this!! Is she training on an empty stomach and you are feeding her her meal like this, or are these just treats?

Wonder if that's where I'm going wrong ?? Letting her go too far before I recall. Short distances done quickly. She also knows the whistle and responds in sterile environments but when something more exciting is going on... Nothing

Really enjoying these videos. Can someone tell me what kind of whistle Jamie uses?
  • @gaylemowat683
when you blow the whistle is it just purely a food reward or are you using e collar at the same time as the whistle?
  • @ak203
looks to be 5-7 months but it would be helpful if you could tell us age of the dogs you're training
  • I've tried this with my dog and he still has zero interest in coming back to me, with both food or toys ๐Ÿ˜”
