Venetian glass is perhaps the most famous glass in the world. The island of Murano became the glass-making center of Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries, creating art that was so popular it was sought out by royals well into the 19th century. Today, the intricate pieces are still in demand, and one entrepreneur is making waves by turning an old world craft into modern day art. Dana Jacobson has more.

"CBS Saturday Morning" co-hosts Jeff Glor, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson deliver two hours of original reporting and breaking news, as well as profiles of leading figures in culture and the arts. Watch "CBS Saturday Morning" at 7 a.m. ET on CBS and 8 a.m. ET on the CBS News app.

I visited Murano and this shop a few weeks ago. Watching the process in person was so hypnotizing,

I know Dale Chahuli’s glass work, so I was not surprised that he was Roberto’s inspiration for glass work. Roberto is a true Artist, yes it takes Math and Science to make Art, that has been my experience and I have been doing Art since I was 2-3 years old, my mother was such a wonderful artist. She just passed away 3-19-2024, at her funeral, my son’s special memory was of my mom sitting with him when he was 5, while they talked and drew, he said he was amazed at his grandmother’s drawing, it hung in his bedroom for 10 years, hopefully I still have it. I miss my mom, we took her to the Bellagio Hotel/Casino, to view his ceiling Art and Dale was their in the lobby, I was star struck, I have loved Dale Chahuli’s glass art since the 1980’s.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

This is great, my family and I just visited Morano Tuesday
  • I had collaborated with many Murano glassmakers around 20 years ago and was sad to hear of their recent troubles (and potential end to such a legacy.) Happy to see this new new creative initiative and hope it inspires others to enter the time-honored craft

Glass blowing is an art.. It's not that easy to do, I try it... So I have respect for the Master Glass Artist....

Just FYI, Netflix has a TV series called 'Blown Away' that is a glass-blowing competition. You'll see & learn a lot!

So beautifully amazing work. Wondering if they need protective gear. No gloves, heat resistant clothing, boots?
