Thank you for listening to my request! I used to listen to this song all the time when ibwas homeless, travelling from one place to the next all the timešŸ’œ

A genius lyricist. Brock has a unique way of using oxymoronical dichotomies. I'm mostly into heavy metal. The Lonesome Crowded West in particular but other earlier Modest Mouse will always have a special place in my heart. It's whimsical, full of mood, evokes nostalgia and never fails to make me reminiscent.

Modest Mouse is incredible... You should react to more of their stuff
  • @deegee7133
I'd like to see your reaction to Modest Mouse's "Bukowski", and then "This Devil's Workday", in that order.
  • @28yrsl8r
This song is prologue for an exceptional album. I hope you can react to more tracks from it.
  • @AlienWhitefellow
Bukowksi, king rat, dramamine, parting of the sensory, black cadillacs, heart cooks brain..just a start
  • Iā€™m so glad you reacted to the live version. This very video is one of my favorite comfort watches of all time. Itā€™s always interesting hearing other peopleā€™s perspectives on songs I love. For me, what is interesting about how Brock captures a nomadic lifestyle in this song is thereā€™s a very distinct sense of sadness about it. Maybe that he feels like he doesnā€™t have any choice but to be a drifter, or that he feels like heā€™s already traveled everywhere but heā€™s still trapped in a sense, like the open road has become its own prison and he canā€™t find anywhere he can settle down. Also the strain it puts on his relationships and not being able to maintain them, like with the line ā€œyou said that you did, but you didnā€™t understand,ā€ presumably the person heā€™s talking to not understanding his nomadic lifestyle. It is not without its troubles. Thanks again for sharing your experience thoughts on this one, love your reactions.

Modest Mouse is awesome but I think I would of chose Gravity Rides Everything, Breakthrough, but most definitely Spitting Venom and maybe Steam Engenius after those. Spitting Venom is incredible.
  • @utubbesux
I appreciate your honest and sincere reactions. If you like songs about nomads, check out Townes Van Zandt's "I'll be here in the Morning" and/or "To Live is to Fly"

You know dude, we live in Hungary ( my sweetheart and me) and when I go somewhere, I always come back here to see how much worse living here is than where I was before. I sometimes build exhibitions and I got to know many people, but I got much closer to all of them in a few days there than to the sons of my country with whom I worked. It's wery sad for me! I really understand this song! :(

I think one of the biggest draws of joining the military is "seeing the world". I sort of regret not doing that after hearing my Dad talk about his time in the Navy.
  • @richnothnagel
This song cut through me. One of my favorite songs ever
  • @mianoheart6014
This song has literally got me through SO MUCH forever MY song
  • @mi1stormilst
Good song, loved your reaction and your commentary sir.
  • This song begins such an amazing journey. Isaac Brock is a philosopher, imho. "We'll all float on, okay."
  • @ryry283
Float on by modest mouse next please
  • @GhostlyEcheveria
Modest Mouse is one of my all time favorite bands. This album is the last album that I was able to get into, though. Their newer stuff doesn't have the same impact for me. Their albums that came before this album are their best.
