One really creepy part about the large mutant boss fight is that they still talk like a human unlike the other mutants... So, the sprout has taken control of the body but not the mind...

I think that not enough has been said about this game's amazing enemy design. their attack patterns, fluidity, how they show damage ..... really, it extends to more than just the bosses
