John Cleese famously said that Ronnie Corbett had the best comic timing of anybody he had ever met. This sketch shows that.
-
It's genuinely difficult to imagine how anyone could write this sketch. Utter genius...
-
Even decades later, this is still some of the best written comedy ever.
-
You can see Ronnie Corbett really trying to keep a straight face throughout the whole sketch. Utter genius of the highest order!
-
One of the greatest pieces of comedy ever written.
-
This sketch is just beyond brilliant. I know Four Candles/Fork Handles is the one that gets the plaudits but this is the real gem in my view.
-
These two were also masters of keeping a straight face
-
We will never again see comedy this good.
-
"What did Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec do?" "Paint strippers" Every damn time
-
R.I.P Ronnie. One of the best comedians Britain has ever had. Gosh 2016 has been ruthless in that regard :(
-
One underappreciated thing about this magnificent sketch is that Mastermind gave contestants exactly two minutes, and the writer (Renwick) managed to fit the questions into - precisely two minutes. Genius!
-
these two are surely the greatest British comedy duo ever.
-
This cannot be beaten, not just for the superb writing, but the consummately brilliant delivery. They can take an immortal place as the greatest comedy team of all time.
-
“A nutcase”. He nearly lost it at that one. Truly, utter genius comedy 👏👏👏
-
The often missed thing about this performance is the pacing of it. The subtle pauses that endear the gags for each line. It's a masterclass from both Ronnies and David Renwick. Uproarious.
-
These two men are gone now. Their legacy is the enormous joy they gave us, Two lives well lived.
-
To even have the vision to put together a sketch as clever as this is something incredible, but the execution is just perfect beyond comparison. RIP two geniuses named Ronnie.
-
Can we please have some likes for David Renwick? He was the writer of this sketch and many other classic 2 Ronnie's sketches as well as writing one foot in the grave and Jonathan Creek. Performers seem to get all the praise

The Nutcase joke is some of the smartest wordplay I've ever seen 🤣
-
Their sincere demeanor alone, amidst the sheer ludicrousy is astounding.
