Until the 1992 Summer Games in Barcelona, the United States was limited to collegiate athletes for representation. This was due to a FIBA rule that barred American professionals from competing in the Olympics while allowing European and South American pros to compete. This limitation was evident in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, when the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, both made up of paid athletes, finished ahead of American amateurs. The public outcry demanded a level playing field, forcing FIBA to allow NBA participation.

This is a really well put together spot. Really enjoyed reliving that. Had a poster on my wall as a 7 year old of that team. Arguably the greatest team ever assembled in any sport.
