A great, not food related way to use up banana peels is to put them into water, leave them for a couple of days and they make a great plant fertilizer!

I accidentally turned on the TV yesterday when I saw a guy making pulled pork out of banana peels and I was like "dude, I'm not even gonna consider that before Sweet Potato Soul shows me how to do that" and only a couple hours later this happens😂😂.

Thank you. Your videos snapped me out off lethargic eating. I quit most of the processed vegan foods and I'm eating simple since cooking while struggling with depression is hard for me. I boil a potato and sautée asparagus, or mushrooms and that's dinner, or make lentil soup with just and onion in 30 min, or an eggplant with a red pepper and some chickpeas from a can. I feel sooo much better. Thank you

Hi! I enjoyed Chef Jana’s recipes and tried them, it was a blast to add a new no-waste item to my repertoire 🤗 I already make pesto out of radish and carrots tops, salads out of beetroot leaves, I save onion & garlic peels and bottoms to make broth, I sauté cauliflower leaves and stems, I slice thinly broccoli stems to add to salads and soups, I make cheese out of okara (the leftover pulp from making soy milk) and cookies out of oat milk okara… and my favorite is watermelon rinds : I make noodles, jam, pickles (tsukemono), kimchi, grilled steaks out of it, so versatile and so plentiful ! There is always very little food in my kitchen bin 😂

I keep scraps from my veggies and store them in the freezer and make broth out of it once my container fills up. I use the broth to cook grains or make soup. I love it and will do this forever.

Just got your book from the library, super excited to try your recipes!
  • @ChefJana
Oh, wow! You have absolutely nailed it! Welcome to the banana peel team, gorgeous!

I've seen the banana peel recipe videos in the past but I've never watched any until now. Actually, I'm only watching because you're doing it and I trust you. So, thank you for trying this and thank you for your honesty.
  • I save 90% of my veggie scraps to make my veg stock. My favorite thing ever
  • @slapaho
Never would have guessed banana peels were actually edible. I'm like you now, sooo many banana peels wasted over the years! Also, my favorite food scraps are collard and kale stems. I like to toss them into my green smoothies. If you add the right amount of fruit you can't even taste the bitterness!

I might have to try these meatballs.. also I love how much happiness and joy you exude. I'm smiling just watching you enjoy this experiment!

THANKS A LOT FOR THIS RECIPE! IN PUERTO RICO WE HAVE AND EAT A LOT OF BANANAS, SO THIS RECIPE IS PERFECT FOR THE CARIBE ISLANDS. ✌️💚🌺☮️💟
  • Thanks for trying it for me I was really skeptical when I saw on Chef Jana but watching you prepare and give suggestions to help bulk up and add further nutrition an added bonus❤❤❤
  • Love this idea for reducing waste. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one who is skeptical about eating the peels though! I can’t wait to try the carnitas!
  • @vrman3
I like your idea of adding lentils to the "meatballs" or mushrooms to the "carnitas". I thought about trying to make banana peel "bacon" but wasn't sure about how to remove the inner white part of the banana. Now that you showed me how I may give it a go!
  • @Corvid_Moon
I've always wondered how to use the peels of banana! This is a great video and thank you for posting. Very professional :)

I like to take the onion bottoms and regrow them. I eat them as spring onions. I have also done this with celery and lettuce too.
