“Oh dear! I sure hope my son Wolf Wolf McWolferson doesn’t get attacked by a werewolf!”
  • @Bsmith806
6:31. Remus also used the code name “Romulus” in deathly hallows, nice tie in
  • @gingerkays7362
Another meaning of Umbrige’s first name is that “dolor” is Spanish for “pain” with”dolores” being the plural. This goes with how she causes immense pain to countless people, both physically and emotionally Edit: after checking a translator, the same also holds true for Latin
  • Surprised you didn't mention how several of the Weasley family have names related to Arthurian Legends and medieval kings - King Arthur, Percy (short for Percival), Ginevra is a version of Guinevere, William the Conqueror)
  • @stangneshakon
7:05 Bellatrix is also a name of a star, the right shoulder of Orion. It is a tradition for the Black family to be named after stars (or galaxies, Andromeda)
  • @Not_a_muggle
Lyall and Hope really named their child Wolf John McWolf and Greyback had a fieldday when he came to know the Lyall's son's name
  • @eveywrens
Also, Pomona, Professor Sprout's first name, was a Roman Goddess of fruit trees, gardens and orchards.

Padma Patil - Padma is a sanskrit word which means Lotus. Head of the village is called as 'patil' . Parvati Patil - Parvati is a hindu goddess. The word itself means daughter of the mountains....She is also called 'sakti' which means power . /force.

Ironically enough, "flight from death" (in a single word) is exactly how voldemort's name was written in the HP books in my native language.

MovieFlame works so hard to make videos on Harry Potter, even though the series ended so long ago. It's nice to still have some harry potter content to listen to. Also, Luna's mother, pandora. Something went very wrong, causing her death. This may be tied to the story of Pandora's box, where pandora got too curious and unleashed bad things onto the world.
  • In the Dutch translation, some of the names are also genius puns: Dumbledore is Perkamentus (Perkament = parchment) McGonagall is Anderling, “ander” meaning someone else, refering to McGonagall being an Animagus Trelawney is Zwamdrift, “zwam”means mushroom or bullshitting, and drift means to want something very much. Here name literally means “wants to talk bullshit” 😂 Hermione’s name is Hermelien Griffel, a griffel is a stylus or pencil, and the phrase “tien met een griffel” (an A with a stylus) means to ace a test Weasley is Wemel in Dutch. “Wemelen” means that it’s very crowded somewhere, tying in to the fact there’s many Weasleys. Scrimgeour is Schobbejak, which means lowly criminal Stan Shunpike is Sjaak Stuurman (stuur = to steer/drive and man is well… man) so he’s a driving man… McNair is Vleeschouwer, wich combined “vlees” (meat) with “houwer” (cutter), making his name mean “meat cutter” since he’s Buckbeak’s executionist. Tom Riddle is Marten Viliin (I know, very different, but otherwise the anagram did not work). The word “vilein” (pronounced the same as “vilijn” means cunning and villainous, and is therefore also a pun. There’s many more examples of punny names in the Dutch translation (all of the names got Dutchified (except for Harry Potter), but these were the best ones.
  • 13:27 Dolores also means 'pains' in Spanish, which is represented by her punishment involving making students carve the words "I must not tell lies" into their hands
  • Another interesting one: Salazar Slytherin. Who was named after Portuguese dictator António de Oliveira Salazar.
  • @andrewbesso4257
In Greek mythology, Hermione is the daughter of Helen (of Troy).
  • For anyone wondering, Cedric's last name Diggory comes from the Tales of Narnia, where he is a main character in The Magician's Nefew and was there when the world of Narnia was created, and then responsible, as the old professor, for the siblings to first go to Narnia themselves, even if not intentionally
