In this case study, we reflect on the phenomenal success of Lothian Buses launch of account based ticketing with open payments. The system, developed in partnership with transport ticketing specialist Flowbird and launched two weeks before the 2019 festivals began, was a resounding success. Within one month, it processed over a million open payment transactions, demonstrating one of the fastest adoption rates of an open loop transit scheme in the world.
