Sunday River Closing Weekend - Ride Up & Ski Down (Jordan 8 to Excalibur)

Published 2024-04-30
Here is a top-to-bottom run of Excalibur, taken on April 19th, 2024. In this video I ride up the Jordan 8 chairlift and down the Excalibur trail, which for the most part is very consistent in pitch. Excalibur is probably the hardest groomer of the three main groomers on Jordan Bowl, as there are many headwalls and steep sections located within the upper portion. The portion of the trail is also a little unbalanced, as there are also many rollers and bumps along most of the pitch as well. If you keep your speed, you can get some serious air off of some! Excalibur is also rated as an intermediate trail (blue square), and is a bit steeper than its sister trail, Rouge Angel.

The Lift:
The Jordan 8 is a high speed eight passenger chairlift at Sunday River Maine. It replaces an older high-speed quad from 1994, and travels at a blazing 1,181 feet per minute, or 6 meters per second. Jordan 8 and Barker 6 currently have the (unofficial) title of fastest chairlift in all of New England. Keep in mind that there are other lifts in the East that can in fact run faster, but most are slowed down to accommodate / adjust their operation speed from day to day operations. The lift features heated seats, custom red bubbles (first of their kind in the world), Doppelmayr direct drive, and a re-elevated summit to withstand wind speeds up to 60 MPH.
