Vegeta raised Trunks like he would any other Saiyan. It took him a while to understand that Trunks isn't just a Saiyan.
  • "Vegeta is peak dad" Show's image of Vegeta yeeting Bulla several dozens of feet in the air and away.

To be fair, he didn't really have a role model to follow. His father was the same way with him as he was with Trunks. Plus he actually grew up in Saiyan culture which is most definitely different from human culture. He came around, it just took some emotional growth to do it.

I disagree. Vegeta was the best father he could be. He came from a race that abandoned their kids most of the time. He learned to be an amazing Dad
  • Another example of how caring he is about Bulla... Is when Hercule accidentally makes Bulla cry. The moment that happens, Vegeta goes Blue immediately, willing to beat the everyliving hell out of Hercule for it

To be fair to Vegeta, after the Freeza saga was the first time he knew peace. His life up to that point was pretty much nothing but violence death and destruction jumping from bettlefield to battlefield. That he was able to settle down at all is a huge improvement.
  • Considering that for most of Vegeta's life Goku was one of the few that was at times nice to him, during DBZ, & that he grew up only knowing violence I'd say Vegeta did a pretty good job. Not to mention Saiyans weren't known as a friendly race
  • Vegeta grew up with piss poor parentage himself, that's not necessarily an excuse, but it is a template for where his bad habits amd actions stem from. I really gotta give credit to Bulma. I know we can all make jokes about her putting it down on Vegeta, but really to her credit, she was patient with him (or equally as stubborn in other cases) and between her and her own parents, they took up the slack for where Vegeta didn't measure up. So props to the Briefs for having just the right blend of dysfunction and also tenacity, to win the Saiyan Prince over to being a better man 😊

I think this is more how Vegeta was raised. No evidence that his own father treated him like anything other than a 'You are destined to be a Super Saiyan'. When you see child Vegeta train, he's on his own killing Saibamen, not with his Dad. He simply legitimately didn't understand how to be a parent.
  • Plus let's not forget his childhood and how he is a different race than we are.

It's important to note that saiyan kids are quite independent and capable of taking care of themselves, unlike human kids they need little supervision explaining he didn't pay much attention to Trunks, who loved to be with his father but didn't seek his attention all time. With Bulla character development aside, it's very likely that Vegeta saw her like a mini Bulma and thus as a delicate human that needed more care.
  • He's learning and improving. Considering his past and all the role models he's had in life, sure he starts off bad. However, he's moving toward bettering himself. As he does so, he becomes less and less of a Prince and more of a King.

spoiling a child is one of the worst things you can do to them kid. He gave up one extreme for another.
  • I'll never forget watching 'Vegeta's Respect' for the first time and Vegeta said "At first I thought it was your loved ones. That it was your instinct to protect you that spurred you on! But then I found myself with a family of my own and my power didn't increase at all..." Bro literally said, "Kakarot surpassed me (AGAIN) but now he's dead...even his half breed son surpassed me...I gotta get my s&*t together; let me wife up this earth woman and look after our kid because maybe that'll get me the boost I need to be in the number one spot..." Didn't matter since he threw all of that family nonsense out of the window by letting Babidi control him to go back to how he was before settling down because he felt it was making him soft.
  • @Bradman1978
Well, at least he wasn't dead like Goku with Goten. Goku never even tried to look at earth to see what was going on with his family.

Vegeta gave extreme hell training to future trunks in spirit of time chamber, i didnt realize it unitil i rewatch again 😂
