Lot of comments on here about how it's not exactly exorcism. Yes, it isn't. This practice of 'warding off evil spirits' is just the Hindu way of spring-cleaning for the soul. It's also seen an opportunity for women to vent their frustrations/negative emotions in a socially acceptable setting. It's akin to unleashing bottled up emotions with a good cry.
