Interior designer Vanessa Alexander’s secluded Malibu sanctuary is not your typical Californian beach shack. Located at the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains in Bonsall Canyon, this modern farmhouse is privy to tailored outlooks of rugged cliffs and established tropical greenery, just minutes from the beach. In this exclusive film, Vanessa takes us on a guided tour through her home, elucidating how she transformed it into a light-filled, European-inspired haven for her family.

Clearly, an accomplished interior designer but what impressed me so much was how the landscaping felt both designed but somehow naturally occurring.

There's nothing quite like the privilege of stepping inside a designer's own home, particularly the soothing spaces of Vanessa's Malibu retreat. I love that the film offers a new perspective on how the interiors unfold and the unique details within.

My goodness. This is superbly beautiful. Warm and luxurious, but not too precious all at once. I also love the global influences sprinkled throughout.
  • Speaks to me of cocooning; styled but not over-styled and comfortable - stunning!

The light really is beautiful, so clever the way Vanessa cut the eaves back. An absolute inspiration inside out.

I love this home. Not cookie cutter. Curated and very cool.
  • A captivating blend of old and new furnishings. A great use of space. Vanessa has done an excellent job of exuding a sense of privacy and serenity to this home. Plus, that adorable dog steals the show! 🐾

Very curated but beautiful home. Lot’s of great ideas to borrow for us normal folks.
  • This has always been my favorite house on Bonsall. You can only see the dark color and the greenery from the street. Bonsall is a dream place to live. Love everything about this home. Copenhagen is amazing, I go several times a year too!

Everything blends so well, especially the shower area with all the different colours and material choices. 👏 👏 👏

The garden is gorgeous - I imagine those olive trees were already there before the alterations and renovations. The interior and exterior work so quietly and beautifully together. A lovely, lovely home. Thank you for sharing it with us.

i was ready to criticize this video as there are so many design vids out there, but the grandeur and scope of this house is amazing. there's no famous pieces of furniture but it all looks luxurious and expensive. it's on the brink of too much black but restrained enough. walking into the black building looks like an airport hanger and the lush greenery in the back with the sparse vegetation is chefs kiss.

Amazing light-filled home with beautiful finishes and furniture. Love that the garden feels accessible from every room. Describing the home as a "sanctuary" seems very fitting.

ok the leaves the fallen leaves added so much to me like a residue of a textured nature blanket. such thoughtfulness and curation i see it all and appreciate it all. thank you! it is great to see people living & manifesting personally & boldly & humbly!!

Your home is whatever you say it is. It’s yours! It’s original and created by the lovely home owner. My takeaway is detailed, perfection and most definitely a home.
