For over 10 years, there has been a wooden slab in Minecraft that acts exactly like stone. So why does it exist? Let's find out, shall we?

It's like real life. Using materials to date buildings. "this was made with alpha slabs so it must be pre 1.3"
  • Pretty cool that they didn’t remove the OG wood slabs entirely and keep em as petrified wood.

makes sense that it's petrified, it's like 10 years old at this point

Back in beta my friend got mad and tried burning my house with lava, but because my roof was done with slabs, very little got damaged.

Now if only Mojang would implement putting different slabs in the same block...

I love how finding an old build on 2b2t with the alpha slabs was like finding an archeological site.

"It stayed like this for a good chunk of minecraft's history" "1 year later it was changed"
  • Only veterans renember times when you were scared to enter your world after an update because of possible id changes

I used to think that a wooden slab breaks with a pickaxe due to the fact that we squeezed two planks together and the slab became much durable

1:50 Back then there also was only one type of wooden plank in the game (oak wood). Spruce logs and birch logs also just gave you oak planks (which were just named "wooden planks" back then). Different types of planks were added in full version 1.2 as far as I remember (the same update were jungle wood was added).

I feel old for knowing this from experience. Can't believe it's been 10 years

Never thought I'd be watching a video about a specific minecraft slab

The fucking “This, is a wooden slab. But, it's not. It's actually a stone slab. but in disguise. ”at the very beginning KILLS ME

The fact they kept them as "petrified" to signify them being so old is so amazing.

In the early days they put wood and stone variants under the same ID, but later they made separate IDs for every color of shulker box for no reason at all.

I used to play on the 360 version and I felt so smart when I figured out that wooden slabs were mined with a pickaxe

I remember using two Wooden Slabs in Pocket Edition to make a Super Wooden Block, which was basically a Stone Block with the Wooden Block textures.

Ah, what a nice nostalgia trip, haven't been too much in creative lately or played on any old worlds, so it's nice to see that the old "wood" slabs still live on as petrified wood.
