Ravi Gunslinger - Borrowed Time (Parquet Courts Cover)
Published 2023-03-05
Borrowed Time was originally recorded by a Jonathan Schenke (@jonnytwoeyes) on a tascam 388, and sonically it's a punk masterpiece. Please check out some of his other works, and also read up on the the Tascam 388 - a machine so beautiful that @ponderers wrote a song about it.
Ravi's homage to the Courts features the BBC symphony orchestra.
Here's what he had to say about the recording:
"I've been a fan of Parquet Courts since 2018 having stumbled upon whilst shopping for a new living room floor. I instantly fell in love with their raw Dead Kennedy's-esque energy."
"You know, I felt a lot of pressure to get this right. The last cover got me into a lot of trouble with @wetlegband - they didn't appreciate my claim of my version being better than theirs. And they insist that I didn't have a wet leg whilst recording my masterpiece. Their exact words were that I don;t have a wet leg to stand on. Pfft. Whatever."
"This time I wanted to be sure that my version would be better than the original... so I emailed the BBC Symphony Orchestra... and of course they gladly agreed to help me out."
"Despite my efforts, however, I don't think I could ever out-punk the quartz... gg boys"
Ravi enlisted the help of AI for the artwork, he used the keywords "Something original that looks like the artwork from a parquet courts album." and the binary machine did it's magic.
