I get it. You have multiple interests and you don't want to niche. When I was starting my channel, all the YouTube gurus we're advising you to niche down. Buttt, I felt like I had more to talk about than just one topic!

There's a strategy that works better than niching and it'll give your content some variety while still having a focal point. The strategy I use is creating a Target Audience Persona.

In this video, I break down the difference between how to find your niche, how to create a target audience and how to create a target audience persona!

ive done both and noticed that when you have a niche, people dont follow you for you. you think they're loyal followers, but they're not. they'll click unfollow the second you post something that isn't your exact niche. when you post whatever you want is when people will grow attached to you and watch all your stuff whatever you post
  • @NicoleIvory
This is definitely the first time I’ve ever seen someone say to stop niching down. I gotta hear this!!!
  • I am finally realizing that creating content that I'd like to watch as an audience is the way to go. It helps gather like minded people as subscribers and grow a community that's supportive and engaging. It also helps to keep it so healthy for the mindset and keeps you motivated as well.

My coaches have told me for years to niche down 'the riches are in the niches' .. if anything it's held me back so much! I came to realise that I was my target audience, so now I just create content that I'd like to consume :) Great video as per Erin! Thank you for sharing xx

If you’re doing YouTube, you most definitely don’t have to niche. Even a lot of YouTubers that do, they’ll do the same thing for 1-2 years and do the next thing for 1-2 years. YouTube videos get a lot of engagement based on what EVERYONE wants to see not just your subs. Now with a Instagram business page and websites, it should be niched down. If you want to do multiple things think about constructing multiple pages. For instance: you want to sell all kind of candles. Have a page that sells ALL of your ideas. Then one that is Faith based and one that is funky/unique. Each IG page can target THAT particular customer.

I agree! My niche was natural hair because I was always told the best way to be successful on YT is to have a niche. But after a couple of years that niche actually wasn’t beneficial for me creating consistent content because there’s no way I can wash my hair 3 times a week. So over the last few months I’ve been trying to dig myself out of that niche hole and incorporate my other interests such as makeup, fragrance and skincare. It can be discouraging because those videos don’t get as many views as my natural hair content because that’s what my channel was built on. But it’s a way for me to build a new audience that are interested in my other interests and allows me to create more content. So I’ll keep pushing to grow those views for makeup, fragrance and skincare. Because one thing I’ve learned about content creating, if you’re not doing the things you love you won’t continue to create. I always want YT to be fun and something I enjoy and not feel like just another job 😉
  • @AshAlexander212
Thank you for this. I’ve stalled making content and giving it my all because of the whole “pick a niche” thing. It almost makes me not want to create because creating should feel free and I just felt boxed in

Thank you I love this ! I'm a doctor and I felt like my content has to be only health but I love other things other than health, I also realized I want my socials to be an escape. I'm so much more than a doctor.
  • @Monique3577777
So glad YouTubers are normalizing not having only one niche, thanks for this video !
  • @xerindavisx
I completely agree. If you're doing youtube as a passion long term, I think avoiding niching down is better. The channel can change as you change!
  • @Lor_Kreny
Yeah, I'm too versatile to Niche Erin. I'm with you on this one.
  • @serenacorrinne
I’ve literally felt like this for years! Holding out on even trying in the first place because I could never decide on just one thing or category. I’m just now setting the intention to figure out how to go about expressing my creativity without limits. I was just on the phone talking to a friend about this exact thing, opened up YouTube and this is the first video that popped up. Needed to hear this 🙏🏽
  • @CannolisCanvas
I’m a 41 yr old corporate woman watching your video trying to work on my you tube channel. I’m your alter-customer 😂. You’re speaking to me! Thanks for your video.
  • @ImTash
i love how clear you are with your info - no fluff, just clear actionable gold!
  • @angelricci35
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This was definitely the clarity that I needed and will help me so much going forward! I was under the impression that I needed to niche and then find a specific target audience together and it just felt too restrictive. By only focusing on the target audience I feel less of a burden on selecting topics and also less stressed on being too restricted. I appreciate you taking the time to make this video as it hopefully impacts my channel for the better going forward. Take care!
  • @SEAofMARINA
This was so necessary to hear! Ive had my youtube channell for 8 years and have always felt stuck with trying to find a niche to grow my channel. But in reality didnt want to get stuck in a specific type of video category either. I have always been very multi dimensional and have been trying to come up with a better plan to share and educate on those things.THANK YOU!
  • @maraadibe
Thank you so much Erin. Since I stumbled on your channel my idea about content generation changed. My biggest struggle with my channel is deciding on what type of content to creat because we have been told that on YouTube niching is paramount. But hearing you now makes me really excited to go vast with my content ideas.
  • @houseofmimi656
You're amazing! I was definitely JUST talking about not niching down! So glad someone made a video about it -- I do target persona profiles with my branding clients and they always find it so helpful!! Great content + thanks for sharing!
  • @keyonaspeaks
I used to reject TAP but the way you explained it actually is what I want. Erin, you really helped me!! Thank you!
  • @PINKRIOT
Omg thank you for this. Trying to find a “niche “ has held me back quite a bit cause I have so many different videos that I want to create but I felt locked in to trying to find just one thing and because I couldn’t choose I’ve just been dragging my feet. I just want to make content that I want to see and build my channel with like minded people.
