Join us in Cape Girardeau as we tour a Victorian Era Queen Anne house located above the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River. This house was Woman Owned in the 1800's and was one of Southeast Missouri's first houses to feature electricity and telephones. Stick around for an interview with Christy Mershon, President of the board at the Glenn House.

Which room was your favorite? Let us know below!
  • Fun Fact: Before mechanical refrigeration became a "thing", what we now call an "Icebox" was called a...refrigerator! (You can see this in vintage catalogs). Oddly, My mother (Born well into the electric refrigerator age) called the refrigerator the "icebox", I sometime slip and do it myself! (Maybe it's a Pittsburgh thing? IDK)

This is so beautiful to see that a community has such love of it's history and the commitment of it's inhabitants still to this day. You did a very nice job with the video as well as the many volunteers and contributors to the house and it's integrity.

I love it that you toured a home from where I grew up! Downtown Cape has some nice historic architecture. That house is beautiful! So glad it's been preserved.
  • Just beautiful, the hold house was decorated beautifully. I just love old homes like this one . Even today these types of home are beautiful but they are open up better then the old ones were . I live in one it was beautiful but had the old feeling about it , the style of the Victorian.

I love the bathroom. The antique sitz bath, toilet, bathtub, sink, the beautiful glossy woodwork, and lighting. I love the colors they chose for the walls of the house. (The greens, mulberry, mustards,,, ) The front porch is beautiful. I love the entire house.

I was surprised at how large the upstairs bedrooms were. The dark wallpaper/wall covering made the rooms very dark, the closed wooden shutters adding to the darkness. A lovely house.

I know that houses in that era were dark, but I had to actually turn up my screen brightness to see this one! 😄 I always imagined that summer kitchens were bigger than that. I was surprised that it was no bigger than a backyard shed! The house and furnishings are gorgeous! 😍 Thank you for the great tour. 👍😘💙

My Mother and I, have visited this house, many times over the years, in the 80's, 90's and the early 2000's. It has always beautiful and we'll preserved. Just a lovely and interesting stories told. Thank you for this visual tour in 2021. Wow.

This house is beautiful! I can't thank you enough. I get to see these houses I could never dream of seeing!
  • I think they are beautiful. The only down side i can see is the interior is darker than I like. My mother always kept her house dark, although not a victorian.. I really prefer brightness indoors.
  • Beautiful home!! My brother is from there and if I ever get back up there, would love to stop by! BTW those are the most fabulous wicker chairs I have ever seen!
  • @joanwiebe3654
I was amazed at the overall side of all the rooms! Loved the dining room, children’s room & the master bedroom - incredible! ♥️

What a beautiful house, decorating is quite elegant. The lighting is very beautiful. I see many of the shutters are drawn to make a more romantic and a mysterious mood. Today people like the house bright and filled with light, however I prefer the charm of the soft light. Thank you, you did a great job.
