Cheap Bluetooth Headphone - Crenova

Published 2017-06-18
These headphones came in an unassuming small plain brown cardboard box. It has 'Crenova' written on it. Inside the box:
- Crenova Wireless headphones
- Charging cable
- Ear buds - 2 sizes
- Ear stabilizer - simple loop - 3 pairs
- Ear stabilizer - mesh shape - 2 pairs
- User manual

Functionality, Quality & Design:

These are labeled as Sports Headphones. For me that requires these to do the following:
- Stay in place through the sports activity
- Provide great sound
- Provide excellent sound isolation - both inwards & outwards
- Be able to take some sweat
- And stay out of my way

The small package has is packing a big punch. The performance of these headphones has really delighted me. They fit in the ears amazingly well, once you have put in the right size of the earbud. They also have the earphone brackets, which provide extra support to the earphone, so the entire weight & responsibility of staying in place doesn't lie on the very thing that's sitting in and almost on the ear canal. The brackets are functional & they do their job.

The earbuds are turned at an angle that enables them to be plugged in the ear canal & stay in the place throughout the workout. Although all the weight of the earphones is attached to the buds that sits in the ear, but the weight doesn't bother the ears. Its distributed nicely across the earbuds.

In today's market where copycats are prevailing (*cough* Instagram stories *cough*), Crenova earphones have a unique pleasing design. The leaf shaped shells pack all the hardware required & not miss any feature. The clean design is evident in the button interface, light placement & the Left & Right earphone indicators. There is subtle but unhidden 'Crenova' branding on both the earphones. Color choice is executed well.

The earphones seem to be made with good quality material as they seem so in hand. The ear buds are soft yet firm, the plastic cable is tangle free flat wire, it doesn't feel fragile. The plastic at the earphone shells seems premium, it doesn't make any creaking noise, doesn't wobble, doesn't bend. Just feels premium to the touch.

Sound Quality:

Very impressive base response. Hip hop & Trap lovers, you will really enjoy these headphones. The mids & highs are equally well balanced. The sound output is loud & it doesn't break / crack. The sound leakage is almost minimal. Once you have the right earbuds, they form a seal that keeps all the volume inside the ears. Sound isolation is also great, because of the seal effect. Once you are at the gym, you don't hear anyone & no one hears what you are listening to. It is like being one with yourself & your music.

Although not ideal, but one could take a phone call with these earphones as well. The audio at the other end was acceptable. The microphone is built in on the inside of the right earphone.

Interface:

Buttons on an earphone and/or headphones is the 2nd most important thing, after the sound quality. And Crenova delivers with a good design. Most of the earphone manufacturers put the buttons right on the outside of the earphones, which result in the pressure directly being passed on to the ear canal on any movement / touch on the outside of the headphones. Some manufacturers also place buttons in such a way that the headphone shifts its position when the buttons are pressed, equally painful experience.

Crenova has an excellent placement of the buttons. They are on the front top edge, blended into the circumference. Functionality is as follows:
- Press once Up / Down - changes volume
- Press & hold Up / Down - changes track

The Play / Pause button which also answers / disconnects a call, is on the underside of the same right earphone. The idea is that you would hold the whole earphone while calling for any one of the functions. And none of the buttons interfere with each other. I don't accidently change the volume, while pausing the track or vice versa.

The micro USB charging port is on the same earphone as the volume rocker, but on the back side.

There are audio queues at the right places. At turning on or off, you get a message. When you have reached peak / lowest volume, you get a beep. Nothing more, nothing else.

Battery:

The listing claims 8 hours. My usual habit with the other such earphones is to put them back on charge after my gym session, because they only last 3~4 hours. I'm yet to get this to zero, so I'm just going to assume they are really good for 8 hours. These earphones get fully charged within 1 ~ 1.5 hours.
