In celebration of part 4/4 of "The Adventures of Pinocchio and Free Speech" compilation series (available in audio-only format on the JBP Podcast), we decided to revisit a classic lecture from Dr. Peterson's 2015 Maps of Meaning series discussing the 1940 Disney classic Pinocchio.

  • There's no way anyone else has ever put this much thought into Pinocchio. Not even the writers. I love this man.
  • @Milestonemonger
No matter how many times I've watched this clip over the years, I've always managed to learn something new. The meaning changes depending on where I am in my life

Imagine having the opportunity to sit in a college class room and learn from such a brilliant mind.... and then taking it for granted 🤯
  • @danhardin7243
I am a psychology major and made the same analogies of Pinocchio over the years. What a blessing to have Peterson affirm my teachings to my kids & grandkids!

The world wouldn't be the same without this man. What an amazing man.

Glad to see this lecture back up. I got the privilege of watching the first one he put up which included clips from Pinocchio before the copyright claim from Disney took it down a couple hours ago.

Jordan, I don’t know if you’re ever going to see this - this lecture of yours, this storytelling of yours about this story has been one of the catalysts that has changed the way I feel about change in a way that has changed me for the better, and I am infinitely grateful. Thank you.
  • I remember first watching this a few years back. Great stuff and a lot to unpack. I find myself having to rewind and re listen a lot of times to try to digest what you're saying, but it's well worth it

I absolutely love symbolism and archetypal story structure analysis. It's so mind blowing.

Dr. Peterson, this lit a fire in me. I paused half way through, and watched Pinnochio for the first time since I was too young to remember it. I recognized sagas in my life that match the three trials - including ESPECIALLY rescuing my Father from the whale, which I believe now I quite literally have. Without belaboring the point, at 35 I finally suddenly recognized myself as someone worthy of the future. There is no other way to describe it than that all at once i was stunned and grateful and terrified and exalting all at the same time. I cannot express my gratitude in this forum, but I hope at some point in the future I will have the opportunity.
  • I love to listen to this man speak...no matter the topic!! He is brilliant, passionate and powerfully humble!
  • Can you imagine an analysis paper written by Dr. Peterson? Holy cow. I had no idea the depth of Pinocchio. What else have I missed?

I started following your channel when you had 2k subscribers, I remember watching these lectures - they blew my mind. And that's saying something, because I have read all of Nietzsche and Carl Jung's works.
  • @briankepner7569
Okay now I know this man is a prophet and genius and humble as well. I am so glad that there's a voice like Dr Peterson's out there. Thank you for the keen insight and human psychology
  • @TipsyFlipper
as a child of the 70s 80s I feel like the surface messages of Pinocchio were pressed fearfully upon me. I will watch this video on repeat because the deeper complexities of this story are always building and increasing. Thank you for your deep look into this story Jordan Peterson.

The applause at the end brought tears to my eyes. I heard echoes of future standing ovations found in a mundane classroom. I heard the spirit of those students shine. Thank you Dr. Peterson.
