My name is Gene Lonergan and on this YouTube channel I will show you how to repair and build the essential items needed for self-sufficiency on your homestead.
My goal is to share with you the skills needed to become self-reliant.

This video series shows how to repair your lawnmowers or small engines. Most homes have several small engines that either need to be repaired or tuned-up. Small engines are everywhere: lawnmowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, chain saws , generators and the ability to troubleshoot, repair is only one of the essential skills needed for self-sufficiency.

Self-sufficiency has become an increasingly popular topic in recent years, with many people claiming that the pursuit of self-sufficiency is a means to find freedom and independence. Individuals who are able to provide for themselves and their family have increased energy, less stress, and live a more fulfilling life.

If you want to become self-sufficient in your own life, there are certain steps you can take that will help you achieve this goal: The basics of course are obtaining shelter, food and water. Then we move on to learn about the basics for projects such as repairing a gasoline engine, the use of pulleys and ropes, tying knots, basic outdoor cooking skills, how to grow and preserve food. Learn first aid and create a first aid kit for your family. People want to be more energy-independent and learn ways to keep themselves cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They are also trying to be independent of the power grid by using solar power.

Solar power is one of the most important forms of renewable energy. The sun is a natural resource that can be harnessed for clean, sustainable energy. Solar power is based on photovoltaic cells that converts the sun's rays into electricity. This electricity can be stored in batteries and used any time, day or night. It has a lot of potential and is quickly becoming a cornerstone of self-sufficiency.

People who are self-sufficient are able to live without relying on outside help.
They may be completely independent, or they may rely on outside help but know how to survive without it. That is my goal, and I hope it is yours also.

It's kind of nice to have the lady friend with you. It helps to "relax" anyone not familiar with the explination of operations of the small engine. You can hear her commenting and understanding along the way, just as anyone else would first time learning this stuff. This way you don't get the feeling the instructor is dumbing down stuff and directing it at you. Plus she's sooo damn cute.🤗 Keep up the good work!!🔧🔩

Attention for engine model: Honda, Tecumseh, Briggs/Stratton, etc. The TDC point is the same for all engine model but the set up gap valve clearence is different. 1/4" down piston more clockwise for Briggs/Stratton engine.

Thanks! Very informative and very helpful.
  • Gene, I have a Quantum engine that just quit on me while mowing. I've not been able to start it since. I also had to replace the recoil starter spring, cleaned the carb, changed the air filter, spark plug, and still doesn't start. When I pull the rope now all I get is three little pops. I have never heard that before.
  • Nice video!!! Can you tell if there is a method to determine condition of cam shaft and, especially decompression mech on it with no engine taking apart, please? Thank you

can it shear enough to put the timing out, but not enough to be noticeable visually?
